Qui Nguyen was born in Saigon, Vietnam shortly after the end of the Vietnam War. From a young age he learned how to be self-reliant, selling goods on the street in order to get by. When he was 24 years old, his older brother Thomas helped him immigrate to the United States. He initially lived in California near his brother who was a Marine based at Camp Pendleton.

Following his time in California, Qui lived in Alaska and Florida before settling in Las Vegas. He worked as a manicurist to support himself while developing his poker skills, and met his future wife when she visited his shop as a customer. Being a manicurist allowed him to secure work despite his limited English skills, and provided a community of other Vietnamese immigrants with whom he could converse and learn more about his new home.

Shortly after arriving in America, Qui was introduced to poker by friends. He initially learned to play at home games and eventually graduated to cash games in card rooms and casinos. After his move to Las Vegas he frequently played cash games at the Rio, Bellagio, Wynn, and Aria poker rooms. The aggressive style of his cash play at the Aria earned him the nickname “TommyGun”. In 2009, Qui garnered his first WSOP cash when he came in 54th in a $1,500 buy-in event at the Bellagio, earning him $9,029.

In 2016 Qui earned a seat to the World Series of Poker’s main event by winning an $1,100 satellite. He went on to win the coveted main event bracelet and over $8 Million in prize money. He donated a portion of his winnings to various charities, including The Wounded Warrior Project, The One Step Closer Foundation, and a number of charities benefitting the poor in Vietnam.

Qui currently lives in Las Vegas with his wife, his four year old son, and his brother. When not playing poker he enjoys boating, fishing and playing with his son. He plans to spend the next year playing in various tournament circuit main events.

This story is the further confirmation that everything is possible, if you do the work that you love. Of course, the luck has played an important role in getting the success, but you know, that the good things come to those who wait and don't give up. Also, I want to notice the fact, that he played not only at the one poker site(he said it in his interview), and I understand him. I won't hide, I'm the casino player with great experience. Everyone, who gambled at least one year, knows, that site doesn't give you money for a while, after you get huge win, so it's more appropriate to change the service. I can say you more, I have the list of the different casinos for such situations, so if you are interested in it, you can always find here all you need. Good luck and remember the success would not be achieved overnight.
