Try to free enough space in your computer, then run sfc scan. It usually takes up to one hour depending on how fast your computer is, so just ensure its plugged in. The sfc scan can fix almost every windows problem without needing a format.

Try it from that link and select free version. Be sure to disable the current antivirus installed on your system as that too might prevent avg from fully installing. If after scanning u don't find any virus or malware then I suggest u defragment your hard drive and do a chkdsk command on it to fix logical errors. But do one after the other. Do the antivirus wahala first then move on to the next step.
