The whole saga is full of many bends and bumps.

1-Maina was recalled and resumed work since Sept. 28th, but on 11th Oct, the HoS was verbally alerting the president of what 'will happen to his anti-corruption fight' if he resumes. Means she did not know of the resumption before it happened or she was doing a recovery measure against an impending backlash? And she waited another 12 days (23rd Oct) to send an official letter and possibly leaked it to curry favor from the public.

2-Will president Buhari or even the cabals expect Maina to resume work without a public outcry? What is the gain in bringing him back? He is a complete political liability and antithetical to PMB posture. Nothing logical in reinstating him.

3-Or PMB did not hear HoS when she was verbally cautioning him? The way he reacted and quickly sacked Maina when he heard about it makes this a valid supposition. Or she didn't actually caution him in the real sense, believing say the man no dey hear well.

4-Another supposition could be that PMB is told that Maina is useful in the pension fund investigation and should resume to continue and complete the good work. This is very unlikely because same PMB would have ignored the public outcry on the Maina's reinstatement. He has done things like that severally.

Conclusion: Looks like principal officers under PMB worked clandestinely (including Ita-Oyo who may have turned a blind eye) to bring Maina back assuming the court judgement he had gotten is sufficient to reinstate him. Some money may have passed hands or he is simply a close ally. Certainly PMB was not aware of this-going by his immediate actions. But HoS was alerting him too late. And Kyari may have blocked her letter knowing the president is already aware and about to act on it. As at 23rd Oct, Maina saga was already everywhere. There was need for Ita to leak it to put PMB under public pressure not to act on her omissions or commissions. The way minions are jumping around supporting her confirms this is a smart decision

The main guy at epicenter of all the is the AGF. I think he influenced many things here.

Something to note: Maina is not a convict on any charge and has no case pending in court. He has legal right to resume office. The AGF can stand his ground here and risk being sacked. But it will be more honorable than trying to dodge.

PMB should fast-track the cabinet rejigging. To much smoke everywhere. There will soon be fire outbreak.
