Notmyproblem:

I understand but to be honest at the present stage of our development religion serves a purpose - a purpose of hope. Imagine if not the hope that are the center of every religious messages in Nigeria what the suicide rate would have looked like. Imagine if most people could analyze the economy situation of the country correctly and realize that they are doomed that no matter how hard they fight they are never escaping poverty. On the other hand they were raised to not believe in message of hope and salvation and the promise of a better life hereafter if only they are patient enough. In such a hopeless state and with the understanding that dead puts an end to all the suffering without the possibility of having to answer for it after life most people will willing opt out of life.

In my opinion religion gatherings is our version of receiving psychological and emotional help in dealing with the situation we found ourselves in.
Very true Sir.. We've not yet fully attained the economic, cultural n psychological maturity required to b mostly non religious.. The best we can hope for at dis stage of our development is a less fanatical religious system..

Well, I'm a Christian.
I give my tithes.
I'm not forced or coerced to give it.

Jesus died that I might have life in Abundance, to the full, till it overflows.

If folks under the old covenant pay 10%,
I'm under a better covenant and my God deserve more than 10%.

If I don't pay my tithes, there is NO curse that will come upon me because I've been redeemed from the curse of the law.
how did they tithe? That's the question? Deuteronomy 14 vs 22-29 says it all..

Finally lemme lay this whole controversy to rest.

Genesis 14:20 KJV
And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all...

This is probably the first place tithe was mentioned in the Bible...

Abraham never heard any voice from heaven commanding him to pay tithe...but he did pay his tithe to a priest Melchizedek.

Moving forward...Leviticus 27 is another place tithe was mentioned. This chapter provides a blueprint of or charter about the giving and receiving of tithe for the children of Israel...this is the first time God himself gave commandment about Tithe in the bible...So much mathematics there..

Numbers 18
This is where God gave the ordinance and proceedings of tithe and commanded that it is heritage of the levites (the priests)read and compare with Genesis 14 vs 20. Abraham gave without hearing a command from God and later in Numbers 18 God made it a command to be given to Levites. I hope you are learning?

Now here is your post.

Hello dingbats, this message is for you! I will continue to preach it and abuse you until sense finally falls on you!
-
Your tithe is for you to eat with your family, orphans, widows and the poor! Read your bible don't be a cretinous dingleberry! ~FRZ
-
Deuteronomy 14:[22] “You must set aside a tithe of your crops—one-tenth of all the crops you harvest each year. [23] Bring this tithe to the designated place of worship—the place the LORD your God chooses for his name to be honored—and eat it there in his presence. This applies to your tithes of grain, new wine, olive oil, and the firstborn males of your flocks and herds. Doing this will teach you always to fear the LORD your God.
[24] “Now when the LORD your God blesses you with a good harvest, the place of worship he chooses for his name to be honored might be too far for you to bring the tithe. [25] If so, you may sell the tithe portion of your crops and herds, put the money in a pouch, and go to the place the LORD your God has chosen. [26] When you arrive, you may use the money to buy any kind of food you want—cattle, sheep, goats, wine, or other alcoholic drink. Then feast there in the presence of the LORD your God and celebrate with your household. [27] And do not neglect the Levites in your town, for they will receive no allotment of land among you.

Daddy freeze be it known unto you this day that this law was given in transit because the children of Israel were faraway from the temple which was yet to be developed in the promise land..it is a transit law because that land in which they were was not thier permanent place better said it wasn't The Promised land.

So,there had to be a way for the righteous consumption of the divine order.

Deuteronomy 12:9 KJV
For ye are not as yet come to the rest and to the inheritance, which the Lord your God giveth you.

Deuteronomy 27:2 KJV
And it shall be on the day when ye shall pass over Jordan unto the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, that thou shalt set thee up great stones, and plaister them with plaister:

2 Chronicles 31:10 KJV
And Azariah the chief priest of the house of Zadok answered him, and said, Since the people began to bring the offerings into the house of the Lord , we have had enough to eat, and have left plenty: for the Lord hath blessed his people; and that which is left is this great store......you can see here that twas the priests who received the tithe...

Eating among the poor was a temporal command since God's children were still in transit...the temple was far away....

Nehemiah 10:37-39 KJV
And that we should bring the firstfruits of our dough, and our offerings, and the fruit of all manner of trees, of wine and of oil, unto the priests, to the chambers of the house of our God; and the tithes of our ground unto the Levites, that the same Levites might have the tithes in all the cities of our tillage. [38] And the priest the son of Aaron shall be with the Levites, when the Levites take tithes: and the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithes unto the house of our God, to the chambers, into the treasure house. [39] For the children of Israel and the children of Levi shall bring the offering of the corn, of the new wine, and the oil, unto the chambers, where are the vessels of the sanctuary, and the priests that minister, and the porters, and the singers: and we will not forsake the house of our God.#FreeNation#FreeTheSheeple

Depends on the church but I know for sure, Winners pay well and Redeem is okay. The pastor in question may not be full time.

"may not be full time" you say? Would you allow a part time manager manage your business in which you depend on one way or the other? Any church business branch is taken quite seriously with trusted and full time branch managers! Bro, GOs don't joke with tithe and offerings oo, not that you don't know, lolz!

To be quite honest I used to think he was just looking for attention until I watched his interview with Linda ikeji TV... I advise ppl to watch and form their opinion for them selves. These news blogs paint the whole story in the wrong light.
dayowunmi:
The claim that payment of Tithes enrich pastors is unnecessary. Tithe was meant for pastors welfare in the first place. Perhaps Freeze forgets that some of these churches have thousands of pastors working on full time and some even have missionaries, tithes is meant to be used for paying them salaries! He makes stupid comments as if the G.O's are the only pastors of their respective churches. Don't be surprised if some of these G.O's don't even touch tithe money! Look at the words of Paul "In the same way, the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel" 1 Corinthians 9:14 Tithe, offerings and First fruits are all scriptural and are means through which the church is meant to generate income to take care of salaries, building projects and general church maintenance and other programs. I seriously don't get what the ruse is all about

I have been on Nairaland too long to know that majority opinion does not mean being correct. When a post about an employee and her employer comes up, the vote always goes to the employee because more people on nairaland are employed and vote from their own experience without putting themselves in the employers shoes.

The same goes for church matters, majority opinion does not make a thing right. I base all my judgements from scriptures and personal convictions. If anyone is to advice me on spiritual matters, definitely not Daddy Freeze because his lifestyle and the way he talks shows he is just an attention seeker. Let a real minister attack tithing and I will be interested in the discussion not a man who talks like women and fights dirty with no shame.
The Bible says:
Let a righteous man strike me--that is a kindness; let him rebuke me--that is oil on my head. My head will not refuse it, for my prayer will still be against the deeds of evildoers. Ps 141:5. Daddy Freeze is not qualified to correct me

How many souls has he won to the kingdom? what significant thing has he done for the advancement of the Kingdom of God on earth? Nothing

The easiest thing to do is criticize. Just study peoples weak points and comments. Its easier to destroy than to build.

When pro-tithers are ready to show us where God specifically mentioned money as part of the items to be tithed, then they should know that monetary tithing is unscriptural.

When God required money for the needs of the Temple, He specifically mentioned where all Israelite males should be levied a temple tax of half a shekel every year. That was an instance of God clearly asking for money.

Refer to Exodus 30 v 13-16 for where God gave the instruction through Moses;

13 This shall every man give, that goeth into the number, half a shekel, after the [a]shekel of the Sanctuary: (a shekel is twenty gerahs) the half shekel shall be an offering to the Lord.
14 All that are numbered from twenty years old and above, shall give an offering to the Lord.
15 The rich shall not pass, and the poor shall not diminish from half a shekel, when ye shall give an offering unto the Lord, for the redemption of your lives.
16 So thou shalt take the money of the redemption of the children of Israel, and shalt put it unto the use of the Tabernacle of the Congregation, that it may be a memorial unto the children of Israel before the Lord, for the redemption of your lives.

BASED ON THE ABOVE, IT WAS CLEAR WHEN GOD ASKED FOR MONEY TO MAINTAIN THE TEMPLE... NOW LET US EXAMINE GOD'S REQUIREMENT FOR TITHES

Refer to Deuteronomy 14 v 22-29;

22 Thou shalt give the tithe of all the increase of thy seed, that cometh forth of the field year by year.
23 And thou shalt eat before the Lord thy God (in the place which he shall choose to cause his Name to dwell there) the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstborn of thy kine, and of thy sheep, that thou mayest learn to fear the Lord thy God always.
24 And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it, because the place is far from thee, where the Lord thy God shall choose to set his name, when the Lord thy God shall bless thee,
25 Then shalt thou make it in money, and take the money in thine hand, and go unto the place which the Lord thy God shall choose.
26 And thou shalt bestow the money for whatsoever thine heart desireth: whether it be ox, or sheep, or wine, or strong drink, or whatsoever thine heart desireth: and shalt eat it there before the Lord thy God, and rejoice, both thou, and thine household.

27 And the Levite that is within thy gates, shalt thou not forsake: for he hath neither part nor inheritance with thee.
28 At the end of three years thou shalt [e]bring forth all the tithes of thine increase of the same year, and lay it up within thy gates.
29 Then the Levite shall come, because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, and shall eat, and be filled, that the Lord thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.

Based on the above verses, God clearly mentioned what is titheable, and money was not part of the items to be tithed.

IN CONCLUSION:
So any fraudster that comes with the excuse that money was not in use because the Israelites were predominantly farmers and cattle rearers...should read Exodus 30 v 13-16 and explain to us why God demanded money from these same Israelites...but specified crops and livestock as tithes in Deuteronomy 14 v 22-29;

Also, I'll be waiting for scriptural references where God made tithing mandatory for gentiles as well.

God has absolutely nothing to do with the tithing you all practice today. So stop lying in his name!
