UNILORIN Inter-univeristy Transfer Scam by Nobody: 7:18pm On Nov 07, 2017
I want to sound the alarm on a suspected scam being perpetuated by UNILORIN through their supposed INTER-UNIVERSITY TRANSFER Program.

The pathetic story starts with the sad fact that no thanks to this hopeless country that rubbishes excellence constantly, my ward didnt get admitted ito the MBBS program in my alma mater LASU even despite scoring 320 in JAMB, and 80% on the shitty point system. He got admitted to zoology in UNILAG last year, and we were hoping this year, he would ditch that crappy course and start his dream course.

Fast forward to about two weeks ago, the University of Ilorin opened a portal for the purpose of this inter-university transfer. I stumbled on the link to the portal here on nairaland on the 30th of October.
https://www.nairaland.com/4142983/unilorin-inter-university-transfer-form-2017. It was outlined that the application portal would be accepting applications and would be open till Nov 5. The outlined requirements were that:

* The applicant would be screened according to the prevailing admission requirements of the previous year. MY WARD HAD AGGREGATE OF 69% BASED ON THE POINT SYSTEM USED IN THE PREVIOUS YEAR.
* The applicant would have a minimum GPA of 3.00 in his current course at his current university. MY WARD HAS A 4.53GPA IN HIS CURRENT COURSE AT UNILAG
* Acceptance fee of 350k for succesful applicants

I figured with the requirements he should easily get into pharmacy. I considered it a good alternative and registered on the portal on Thursday, November 2, 2017. I paid 10250NGN required for the registration, and proceeded to fill in the application. The deadline for filling applications was stated as November 5, 2017, so imagine my surprise when i tried to print the screening slip and payment receipt only to discover that it was written on the slip that there are other documents required to be sent through courier to the university, documents which were not earlier stated, but which apparently must be submitted on or before the same November 5.

How is this possible please? My people can you beat that!!!!!

1. Official recommendation letter from the registrar, dean, and head of department of his current university.
2. Official transcript from current university
3. Scratch cards for O level result
4. Jamb result

I was bewildered because these requested documents are literally impossible to obtain at such short notice. Considering that the application portal was supposed to close on Sunday, November 5, i do not see how all these things can be expected to be sent to Unilorin on the same day as the application deadline.

It became clear then that they just used this plot to scam hundreds, maybe thousands that registered and paid 10250 each, and thereafter sent us all on a wild goose chase. UNILORIN ASKING FOR SUCH DOCUMENTS WITHIN SUCH A RIDICULOUSLY TIGHT TIMEFRAME, AND WITH NO FOREWARNING TO ENABLE A PROSPECT GUAGE HOW POSSIBLE IT IS TO MEET UP WITH THE CONDITIONS BEFORE COMMITING FUNDS, IS FRAUDULENT AND SUSPECT. I have sent multiple emails and havent received one reply to my enquiry.

PLEASE HELP GET THIS TO FRONTPAGE, many need to be aware, and we need to start making these bodies aware that they cant just trample on the sensibilities of people. LOOK AT THE SCANDAL WITH UNILAG, FRONTPAGE PLS! @mynd44 @lalasticlala @dominique @davide470

Wow a person with a 320 jamb score shouldn't be looking for admission at all. Kai I wish I could give this your ward a scholarship to study in ABUAD or Babcock o.
Anyway most public schools really don't take transfers jare. They are just looking to increase their revenue via immoral means. Maybe he should write jamb again to get his desirable course of study.

it is quite unfortunate the kind of nation we found ourselves in. MODS PLEASE take this to frontpage. This will help others and not Tonto Dikeh's and bobrisky's troubles. When i was searching for information on this thing, there was very little about it here on nairaland. Maybe if i and many others had seen a thread like this on time perhaps we would have known better.

this is a very terrible thing I'll say.
Buh I'll still advice you find time to come down to the school or send someone down to ilorin to lodge your complains at the schools admission office.

sorry if you take my words harsh, but i think the fault is partly from you, just like how a student should prepare his or her O level result before seeking admission is the same thing as preparing your transcript and deans report, you don't expect Unilorin to accept your transfer without due knowledge of your ward at his previous school, all i can say is that you ddidn't prepare well for the transfer, best of luck.

i quite disagree. Here's why.
1. He just finished his second semester exams so, a transcript wouldnt have been existent any earlier than now.
2. We weren't preparing for a transfer. Like i earlier stated, i just came upon the information, and i thot it was a desirable alternative.
3. The univeristy should have been transparent enought to have outlined all those ridiculous requirements, so that those who know they may not be able to meet up, can make the right decision.
4. Even under ideal circumstances, he has no power over when those documents can be ready, he cannot just waltz into a registrars office and demand for a recommendation letter, same for the dean and HOD. There are procedures to be followed and it takes time. I applied for my transcript when i wanted to do my masters and it took the school 3weeks to process and the courier service about a week to deliver.
5. Even if he had all the documents (which i maintain is almost impossible in this instance), imagine if i saw the link to the portal on friday the 3rd or saturday the 4th and decided to apply, which courier would get those documents to UNILORIN on sunday the 5th THE DATE AN APPLICATION PORTALL WILL CLOSE SHOULDNT BE THE SAME DATE SUCH DOCUMENTATION WILL CLOSE. THINK ABOUT IT, WHAT IF WE APPLIED ON THE LAST DAY NOVEMBER 5, AFTERALL THE PORTAL WAS OPEN. SOME PPLE WOULD HAVE APPLIED ON THAT LAST DAY. getting those things is not the problem, getting them without any time allowance is!

I hope i have been able to shed more light on this. Requirements for any application should be spelt out from the get go, not after payments were made, then you're now asking for the beard of a one-year old, and the teeth of a snail.

now i get you well, maybe you should look for other alternative(school), but mind you, transfers in Nigeria universities are very difficult. Best of luck

Inter university transfers are ALMOST impossible in Nigeria except ure highly connected. Throughout my stay in the University, i only saw one person who successfully switched to my school and guess who the person was; the VC's son

I don't see a reason for your complain here if you cannot get the issue to the school.
You need to visit Unilorin, their admission department to lodge your complaint.
I'm confident that there is a way around it.
