The truth about weight loss nobody tells you.
Some people think that weight loss is some kind of program where a person can diet for a short period of time, lose the pile of fat stored in your body and finally get that body of your dreams without putting in a lot of effort. That’s a big fat lie!!
This article will tell you the truth about weight loss, the reasons you’re not losing weight and how to stay fit and healthy for the rest of your life.
First, I want to clear your head of the idea that weight loss is some kind of short term program. Take the life of Josh Peck for example, the obese nickelodeon star that lost an enormous amount of weight by dieting and exercising. When asked about how he did it, he said that he simply changed his diet and got a fitness trainer. We started noticing his weight loss at the season 2 of the series DRAKE AND JOSH and after a period of about six years, Josh lost all the weight he needed to loose and was enjoying his new look.
From the last paragraph, I want you to take note of 2 keywords, TIME and DIETING. Josh didn’t lose weight because he was on a short weight loss program, he changed his way of life… weight loss is not a program; it’s a way of life! Weight loss is a journey you embark on with no going back and will change your life forever. That’s the truth about weight loss. You cannot expect to embark on a fitness program for a few weeks or months, go back to your previous was of life and still remain fit. It’s just not possible. Here are some of a few reasons why I personally think some people can’t lose weight.
1. You’re not patient enough
Losing weight takes time and it really hurts knowing some people are ignorant of this fact. When I started my Bsc program in Human physiology, I was far from home and occupied with studies. There was no time to lie down and do nothing (relax) or time to satisfy my cravings. My diet changed and I was always studying (burning calories) and in my third year, some old friends of mine always commented on how much weight I lost within the first three years of my program. I decided to check my weight and I discovered that I lost 68 pounds since my first year (from 190 to 122lbs).but like I said, three years! Yours may not take that long but it will take time. If you’re going to the gym or working out at home, ignore the comments made by others. Just persevere, be patient and without you knowing it you’ll eventually get that dream body of yours. Be patient.

2. You’re on an all out fruit diet.
I’ve heard people say that you can lose weight by eating only fruits. That’s another big lie. I agree that eating fruits are a healthy choice and will make you look amazing. But have you considered the quantity of fruits you eat? I once saw a guy who claimed to be on a diet and was eating six apples and a glass of fruit juice for lunch. One apple has about 95 calories and eating five would sum up to about 475 calories which is almost equivalent to a chocolate jelly doughnut of 452 calories. Weight loss isn’t about your food intake but your calorie intake. Be it fluid, food or fruit, you are overweight because you take in more calories than you burn off. If you can monitor your calorie intake, you’ll see positive results.

3. You’re not sleeping well
Good sleep is one of the most important things to consider when losing weight. A normal person is supposed to have about 7-8 hours of sleep. Studies show that poor sleep is one of the biggest risk factors of obesity. Adults with poor sleep have a 55% chance of becoming obese, while children have an 88% chance. Your body needs time to rejuvenate. If your job requires you doing night shifts or maybe you always work overtime, try taking short naps during the day. But in general make sure that you get enough rest.

4. You may have a medical condition.
There are many health conditions that make weight loss difficult for certain people. A few could be chronic stress; when you are always under anxiety, your body produces chemical substances like the hormone cortisol, which causes your body to store fat especially around the waist region. Another condition could be hypothyroidism; conditions were your thyroid gland is under active and is unable to produce enough thyroid hormone to help burn fat. As a result, your metabolism is slower and you store more fat that you burn. Other conditions could be syndrome x, depression, hormonal changes in women during pregnancy, puberty and menopause, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and cushing’s syndrome. If you happen to be victim to any of these conditions and weight loss is proving difficult, work with your doctor or fitness trainer on a program that will be suitable for you.

5. You’re starving yourself
In my second year in college, I was taught that one of the major ways of fat metabolism was starvation. That’s very true. An individual can lose as much as 15 pounds within two weeks just by starving. It seems like the easy way out to some people. All I have to do is stay a few days without food or eat once a day or once in 2 days and in weeks to come, I’d have lost an enormous amount of fat. Allow me to explain the danger of starving yourself. When you starve yourself, your body enters “starvation mode”. It feels that for the moment you have no food available and so it uses any means it can to get energy to perform your daily activities. As a result you don’t only lose fat, you also lose energy, you lose muscle mass and not to mention the dozens of other health implications. By the time you decide to stop starving, you body “leaves starvation mode” and demands for its entire lost energy making you consume more and gaining all forms of weight you’ve lost. In the end you’ve completely wasted your time.

That’s the truth about Weight loss nobody told you about. It’s not easy, it’s actually a tedious task, and you have to go out of your way to change some bad habits, stop eating some of the things you love and working out. Above all you must be persistent and patient.
