Help?applying To Uk University While Under Malaysian Visa? by Cindymane: 4:19pm On Mar 24, 2010
Hello my fellow Nairalanders. I have a bit of a dilemma that I need help with. I am currently studying in Malaysia. I graduated last December from my Pre-University Program in this very same University. I really wanted to go to UK but they only have September intakes so that would have meant waiting for over 9 months and my parents (who are sponsoring me) totally turned down the idea so I had to come back to Malaysia (reluctantly) to do my degree in IT. I really regret it though, I hate the University and I really hate this country(just my personal opinion). It's only now when parents informed me that I could try applying for UK University and they are willing to sponsor it but I have tried going to an educational agency to apply for UK Universities in September, even though they are willing to help, they said it will be hard for me to get a UK visa while I am still under the unfinished Malaysian visa (my course is 3 years so I guess my visa runs that long). This has totally discouraged me. So what I am asking is should I just apply for a UK University and try to get a visa here (If I get accepted that is) or am I wasting my time? Is this even possible? And will this cause any problems on my passport? I am kind of frustrated, I wish I would have waited for all those months, I feel like I made a mistake!

Don't even try, it's gonna be a waste of time. I know for a fact and from experience that one cannot have two different current student visas on one's passport. That tantamounts to being an international student in two different countries at the same period, impossible!

The only other thing you could try is to voluntarily withdraw from your university in Malaysia, get a letter of withdrawal to that effect, have them cancel your student's visa without prejudice, leave Malaysia and return to Lagos to apply to a UK university, or tell your parents to start the admission process for you while you're making plans to return home. Take your admission documents to the British High Commission and apply for a studen'ts visa. You might be lucky. But is it wise to leave certainty for uncertainty?

Am sorry btt the UK high com will not issue you a Visa as long as you Malaysian student Visa is still due.unless, your course is a transfer course.but still, you can transfer only after a year or 2.
What i would advice you to do is,finish atleast 1 and half years in Malaysia, then apply for 2nd year in a UK university.if the UK university accepts you into 2nd year, then you can apply for a Visa. The uk embassy will only have a problem if it looks like you are abandoning your current studies in malaysia for a future in UK.that is why it is important that your education path looks continous and stuctured.i.e,if you are moving from Malaysia to UK,its from a lower year to a higher year,or undergrad to postgrad.but NOT from 1st year to 1st year.it will raise suspicions.
But if you can just finish your 3years in malaysia with a good degree and apply for Postgrad in UK,and have enough funds for UK visa,it is almost guaranteed.the good thing with the UK high com in malaysia is they do not receive as many fraudelent applications as in Lagos.therefore they have less reasons to doubt you are genuine, plus Malaysians outnumber africans by a very big margin in terms of applicants.

Thank you so much guys for your advise guys. The lady at the agency did pitch up the idea of transferring next(2011) September for Year 2 and yes, guys, my school does have a transfer program BUT the huge problem is it's a branch of RMIT Australia so every student who wants to transfer can go to Australia after 1 and a half years or one year (if you request for special permission) but I never really was into Australia (What's point of moving from one place your not that keen into to another? I'd rather not bother). I don't know if this is going to affect me( the fact that my University is NOT associated with another branch in UK) and if the UK will reject me for that(or even my school not letting me leave undecided because I'm leaving for a non-RMIT University ). I really don't get the University transfer rules at all. I'm used to the high school kind of way where if your you are fed up with school you just switch to another one but something tells me it's not that easy!

The UK schools are only concerned with your grades,if what you are learning is compatible with what they teach,i.e similar modules, then they will have no problems admitting you.just relax and don't give up,apply to as many uk schools as you can next year, and make sure you get good grades, and you will be able to transfer.my cousin who was in malaysia did an american transfer program, but he was denied a US visa,so he applied to UK and was admitted for 2nd year and got his visa last september in Malaysia. So don't worry, just concetrate on your studies for now, when that time reaches, you can start worrying.lol.
