The religious folks, especially the Christians, are perfectly in denial of their membership of the animal kingdom. They do so because they don't want to confront the reality, that human life, begins and ends, just like every other lower animals.

To become more convinced of their denial, they imagined that their breath(cardiopulmonary activity) is a "spirit" and their mind(what the brain does) is a "soul". And the illusion of a conscious existence after death, wherein their spirit and soul, will fuse to become "immortal" being, soothes their irrational fear and perplexity, of what happens after death.

Leading the illusionary assurance of life after death, was Paul, who was convinced that life is miserable and worthless, if there's no life after death. The conclusion of Paul, was informed by his religious beliefs, which was formed by Jewish myths. Beyond this myths, Paul was as perplexed and ignorant, as any believer in life-after-death today.

Life has no "higher purpose". In fact, life has no purpose. To assume that life has a purpose, is to be sold on the imaginary idea, that certain designer of life exist, and gave a manual of life operation. Nothing diminishes our humanity, like a belief in God-idea, which has infected humanity with irrationality, hatred, division, violence and needless death

The only meaning of life (if you need one) that's worthwhile, is the conscious love of our humanity. We are humans, innately capable of responding to pain and pleasure. We give good meaning to life and make our existence better, when we work towards things that increases our pleasure and decreases our pain.

Life is miserable to those who wrong, hurt, harm and pain humanity, in their illusionary quest and hope to secure existence after death. While you eat and drink, remember to use the derived energy to better humanity. This will secure your pleasure.
