Police arrest suspected fraudster in Lagos*Over attempt to defraud bank of $500,000 Written by Adelowo Oladipo Friday, March 26, 2010 THE police have arrested a suspected fraudster, Adebowale Adewoye, for attempting to swindle a new generation bank to the tune of $500,000 under false pretense. http://odili.net/news/source/2010/mar/26/611.html The suspect had, on March 5, walked into the bank's Trade Services Department at Victoria Island, Lagos, with a purported fake document, said to have been issued by the United Nations (UN) and the Federal High Court of Justice, Judiciary Complex of the World Bank, with office in Geneva, Switzerland. Nigerian Tribune gathered that the suspected fraudster allegedly demanded for the payment of the $500,000 from the bank. It was, however, learnt that upon scrutiny, the documents allegedly tendered by the suspects were found to be fake by the bank officials, who alerted the authorities of the Police Special Fraud Unit (SFU), which later arrested the suspect for interrogation. Sources at the SFU, who spoke with the Nigerian Tribune on condition of anonymity, said upon the arrest of Adebowale, similar documents, purportedly forged by him, were found after a search was conducted on him by the police. Meanwhile, the suspect was said to have voluntarily confessed to the crime, stressing that he allegedly saw the documents on the internet. Confirming the incident, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the SFU, Mr Moses Saba, confirmed the incident, adding that the suspect had since been charged to court. |
