Why Ijaws And Igbos Must Unite by Abagworo(m): 11:07am On Mar 30, 2010
I read this article written by a true Ijaw son
and realised how we had and are still being
used by other Nigerians. http://
www.unitedijaw.com/analysis.htm
We actually have so much in
common.balkanization,denial,divide and
rule.igbos have rich inland oil while ijaws have the oil rich shores.we traded in slaves together as well as salt, fish and oil palm.we inter-married.we are multidialectal and consist of several sub-groups(this forms part of our weakness but should have been our strength). If only all igbos and ijaws could realize this,a lot could be achieved by both.Constructive contribution from igbo and ijaw daughters and sons as well as their offshoots-kalabari,okrika,andoni,ibani,opobo,etche,ikwerre,anioma,ndoki,ogba,ndoni,egbema,ekpeye,ngwa,nembe,ogbia,ezza etc.this topic is a call for political unification of all peoples of igbo and ijaw in southeast, southsouth, southwest and north central.some divide and rule tactics employed by the cabal include the abandoned property saga, the big lies that igbos have no oil and want to annex minorities because of oil, granting minority status to any willing igbo or ijaw group and promise of unachievable resource control especially if they are oil-producing.

Hey Bro,

The problem of any tribe or any group of Nigerians is NOT unity.

The problem is POVERTY. How united is England and Scotland? Yet everybody lives in peace.

Let every Nigerian have access to Good road, Electricity, Social security, Hospitals and other basics of Life, you'll be surprised that people will care less about their Tribe or Religion.

As far as i am concerned, there are two tribes in Nigeria, the Oppressed ans the Oppressors.

the aim of this thread is to foster unity and peace for the interest of all nigerians and not a particular region.peaceful co-existence of igbos and ijaws is a step towards achieving real peace in niger delta.

This is wellcomed suggestion but I wonder how this would work. The cabal in Nigeria will fight this idea as it looks secessationist.

Let's first unite fully with our brothers in Rivers and Delta state.

the power of nairaland should not be understated.is it mere coincidence that my proposals here keep affecting nigeria?now that the unity is coming does it still look secessionist or unifying?

Unity is feasible between the two ethnic groups. For that to be achieved, the Ijoo has to recognise the Igbo groups in Rivers state as Ndigbo. They should not see them as Ijoo. They should not see them as Ikwere, or Ekpeye, but rightly as Igbo people.

Andre uweh,
You are very right.

Andre uweh,
You are very right.
When it is convenient for them, those Igbo groups in Rivers are not Igbo. When inconvenient, they become Igbo. Even in some cases, they paint the entire Rivers state with Ijoo colours. Yet Ndigbo are the majority ethnic group in Rivers state.

Under Governor Melford Okilo, Igbo people in Rivers state were regarded as Ijoos. In Rivers state, When Governor Peter Odili was the governor of Rivers state, he was simply Ndoni. When this same man wanted to be the president of Nigeria, he was reminded that he is Rivers Igbo.
When, Rotimi Amaechi was campaigning, he was an Ikwerre man. But when this Ikwerreman wants to demolish houses built where they were not suppose to be built, then Amaechi becomes Igbo.
Ijoo people should search themselves thoughroughly, if they are ready for peace.

i dont know if you actually live in nigeria because to the best of my knowledge there is no war.on a broader sense of it,ikwerres and other igbo groups are igbo but if you come down to the basics, the politics of ethnicity changes.for example to an imo state man,the entire anambra seems to speak one language and have homogenous culture but inside anambra they can spot the differences between awka, onitsha, ogbaru, nnewi etc.in rivers state nobody calls himself ijaw or igbo.ethnic groups are based on clans and that is why ikwerre is majority.ogba, egbema, ndoni, ikwerre, ekpeye, etche, oyigbo(ndoki) are never grouped as a single ethnic group.thesame with okrika, ibani, kalabari.andoni and ogu.

Living in Nigeria or not has got nothing to do with the issue at hand. Obama does not live in Nigeria yet, he knows the high level of corruption in Nigeria. The Ijoos have this attitude of identifying someone as Igbo when it pleases them. Do I need to live in Nigeria to understand that Amaechi's attempt of changing the ugly shape of Port Harcourt has been seen as an Igbo attempt to clear non-Igbo groups from Port Harcourt.
Once again, if the Ijoos wants to unite with their Igbo neighbours, they should search themselves times and times over to ascertain if they actually meant it. As for me personally, unity is feasible.

Thank you almighty for allowing inner conciousness lead in the formation of unity in this region

Join with the Ijaws? Rubbish. . .  angry

Time and time again, whenever we trust these people, they betray us. Let them have their oil.

You would be dominated and divided by the hausa if you you do not hold tight to the unity. Do not forget northern main power is just the unity and the religion.

it is not oil politics but politics of ending divide and rule.after that comes resource management(not control).the states should manage their resources under federal supervision.
