I cannot but agree with you. Delsutech celebrated such a feat but failed to tell members of the public that the patient died later

FMC Umuahia has recorded her first successful kidney transplant surgery.A staff of the hospital named Chikaodili took to Facebook to share the good news and wrote...

'What a joy-filled week as Federal Medical Centre Umuahia records her first KIDNEY TRANSPLANT surgery. It was a huge success. To God be all the glory'.

Very good news.No need of travelling to India again for the surgery.

The patient himself is brave for him to surrender himself for the uncertain surgical journey. He needs to be recognized as the first Nigerian man who took the risk of allowing Nigerian surgions to use him as specimen to learn how to transplant kidneys.

The front page headline to this story is quite misleading (» Joy As Nigerian Hospital Records 1st Successful Kidney Transplant Surgery (Photos)).

It is already misleading some ppl into claiming tribal victory; whereas kidney transplants have been going on for years in this country, including AKTH in my home state, Kano.

Thats great news and am happy for them. But Kidney transplant has been going on in Aminu Kan Teaching hospital with a lot of success story. Intact many people from across the country go there when they have this kind of problems . I think their first case goes back around 2011 or 2012. I salute these doctors nonetheless.

Am impressed, if only the Government could fund health sector, there would be no need to travel overseas to receive medical attention

I don't trust Nigerian doctors...
Since the one of them forgot a blade in my neighbours abdomen when he went for appendicitis. Very crazy sets of people.

Let hope this new kidney patient can live for another three months...
This happens even in UK and other countries. It may be due to negligence or accident, but certainly it isn't peculiar to Nigeria. Successful kidney transplant here should be celebrated, not derided. Let's encourage our own. After all many people go overseas for this type of surgery and don't back alive.

Fool.
It's only in Nigeria I can be awake for more than 48hrs then a patient comes for am emergency surgery which I have to do. Why won't I forget cotton wool ??

Before you do surgeries here in the US, you must be sure not to be fatigued so you'll not make mistakes, and others will do the surgery if you're fatigued.

In Nigeria,no other person to do the surgery if you say you're tired.then the useless patient accuses you of being wicked.

..honestly I received this news with mixed feelings. ; that of joy that we also in naija can do it..hence it will drastically reduce cost of traveling abroad for same operations...nd with sacacism, cuz kidney need to be donated nd can't be planted..so if this feet continued by this hospital, desperate sick persons will pay anything to get a kidney nd then transfer to them..now see the problem..in a bid to match the mad demand for kidney transplant..they would suddenly develop a black market for it..that kidney theft will become rampant. I mean, y would you kidnap nd face the wrath of the police nd the law, nd get caught wen collecting your ransom,y don't you kukuma, bring in a rogue surgeon to inject sedative on your victim and then steal one of his/ her kidney...if nigerians can do anything for money, that they can also do for money...

Only Nigerians want to blackmail doctors by saying "but you signed up for it" without according them due pay. Medicine was one of was the richest profession when the Hippocratic oath was written.
