That a muslim lady refused to remove her hijab during her call to bar, is no news to some of us!

Bigotry has always wanted to find expression in that institution,

In the hay days of UNILORIN, before the religious bigots took over the administration of the once famous citadel of learning (famous in learning and character; famous in sound education ); you wouldn't find a bigoted product like this graduating from the university.

I was in UNILORIN as an undergraduate in the 90s. Later I went back for another programme in the early 2000s, I was embarrassed to see how some bigoted students were treating other students of the same university. Usually, those bigoted male students would wear far above the ankle trousers, unkempt beards, while the female folks would wear hijab. You wouldn't believe these unkempt bigots would be harassing some other students for wearing what they called scanty dresses!

Though this deviant tendency has always been with them for ages. But before the ridiculous, unfortunate exit of the noble forefathers of the once great institution in the early 2000s, the authority was able to keep them in check.

I remember, still in the 90s, there was a physics examination; and the lecturer, one Professor Aro, then; while ensuring that no students brought in any incriminating items (expo) into the examination hall, instructed all the students to remove their caps. While everybody removed his face cap and all that, a few bigoted Muslim students refused. And the man insisted everybody remove his cap. You wouldn't believe those deluded folks ran to their mosque chatting all manners of Arabic slangs, and mobilized some of their followers to disrupt the examination. It took the the effort of the school authority before normalcy could be restored to campus.

UNILORIN has always been plagued with such products. But the people in authority then were able to curtail their excesses. But now, anything goes!
