Religion should submit to the law of the land. The land or country is the keeper of peace not religion organisations.
Everyone cannot be allowed to put on whatever they like just because their religion allows it.

Every organisation has it rules and regulation guiding its operations. Professional bodies have codes of conduct which the members must follow.
These codes of conduct must be adhered to by every member and aspiring member.

Removal of hijab is not removal of pants and braziers.
If every one is allowed to wear whatever they wish because of their religion or fundamental human rights some will put on rubbish and nonsense things.

How would it look if police women starts putting on hijab and church caps on their uniforms.

Section 38 (1) of the 1999 constitution and Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Right, provide:“Every person shall be entitled to freedom of thought, conscience and religion, including freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom (either alone or in community with others, and in public or in private) to manifest and propagate his religion or belief in worship, teaching, practice and observance.”

The Right to Freedom of Religion is a Fundamental Right as enshrined in the constitution and its enforcement is the requirement of the constitution, section 46 (1) provides for enforcement of Chapter IV (Fundamental Rights) of the constitution, thus:
“Any person who alleges that any of the provisions of this Chapter has been, is being or likely to be contravened in any State in relation to him may apply to a High Court in that State for redress”

These are part of the Nigerian law.

Police and US army are using it and soon we have no choice than to join them as the law above states. Islamophobes should just wait and see! grin

The word hijab is not found inside the Quran.

Ahh! ok The word used in the Qur'an verse below is Jilbab!

What does it mean?

Hijab. (Note that it covers their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms)

“And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts) and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent (like both eyes for necessity to see the way, or outer palms of hands or one eye or dress like veil, gloves, headcover, apron), and to draw their veils all over Juyoobihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms) and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands, or their fathers, or their husband’s fathers, or their sons, or their husband’s sons, or their brothers or their brother’s sons, or their sister’s sons, or their (Muslim) women (i.e. their sisters in Islam), or the (female) slaves whom their right hands possess, or old male servants who lack vigour, or small children who have no sense of feminine sex. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And all of you beg Allaah to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful”

Oga, read with understanding. The Hijab that you mentioned, is used to cover the head and neck. The veil mentioned in the Quran, is meant to cover the bosom. Does the hijab worn by Firdaus cover the bosom? NO!! So what was the purpose of wearing it?

The big, black gown which is the lawyer's attire, already covers the bosom adequately. So what use is the veil, in this instance? All this controversy is totally unnecessary, in my view. As at today, Sharia courts do not allow female Muslims to be practising counsels in their courts. Isn't that a far greater breach of a female Muslim lawyer's fundamental human rights?? shocked

This phrase you wrote here (I.e. "like both eyes for necessity to see the way, or outer palms of hands or one eye or dress like veil, gloves, headcover, apron.. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms) ") is not even included in that passage you quoted from the Quran. It is just your own interpretation...

This is the problem most literalist get when they interprete the Qu'ran forgeting the settings from the hadiths of the Prophet. Please go to Madrasa if you are a Muslim and if you are non-Muslim, find out how the Prophet's wives and the female companions observe the verse!

And this is the problem of those like you who interpret the Quran, without putting it in the proper context. The Prophet's wives wore the burqa, which covers the entire body and not a hijab. Of what use is the burqa inside a lawyer's attire? Is the female Muslim lawyer, one of the Prophet's wives?

This is what the religion of 'peace' does everywhere. Assault people's sensibilities with the obscene and blackmail you for reacting. Your religion is your right, so others religion is their right too. If everybody insist on their right in this manner where would society be?

Some people have to be taught how to coexist with others in a society.

How does someone's choice to wear the hijab disturb you in any way? As you said, your religion is your right, likewise for Muslims.

All these are unnecessary...from where or how we derive the stipulation of wearing the Hijab shouldn't be the mainstay here.
We find it compulsory: that's what should matter.

The North? Are you saying there are no Muslims in the South??

Did I say that? If your point is that because there are muslims in the South, they notion that Muslims want to impose their religion on others is untrue, then your reasoning is too poor.

You were the same person who stated that Northern Muslims want to force their religion on everyone. Which was what led to my question, about if there were no Muslims in the south.

I never made any point suggesting that "because there are muslims in the South, the notion that Muslims want to impose their religion on others is untrue.." You conjured that notion up, all by yourself. undecided

Stick to the topic and stop getting paranoid. If you truly believe Muslims want to impose their religion upon you, then there is no point classifying them as Northern or Southern Muslims. It has little to do with the region of the country they hail from.

Next time you do not understand a question or a point that is being made, kindly clarify. Stop jumping to conclusions, please. undecided

Why then does the Sharia court not practice the wearing of hijab? Oh! I hear they even forbid women lawyers. Is that right? And you come and claim right of appearance in hijab in conventional institutions when your own religion rejected you outright from appearing in Sharia court? Can someone explain this?

When I said, the North, you supposed to know I meant Muslims, irrespective of their actual geographical location of residence! Christians also live in the North. So I wasn't literally referring to a location. I was talking about people who practice a particular religion called, Islam.

So your first response still makes no sense.
