Despite #fuelscarcity, Life Must Continue - Femi Adesina

The Presidency has reacted to comments over its decision to air a documentary on President Muhammadu Buhari at a time most Nigerians are groaning with pains over the fuel scarcity the country.

The fuel scarcity across the country has grounded businesses and offices leading to over 100 per cent increase in price from the official N145 per litre.

In a statement on Sunday, Femi Adesina, President Buhari’s spokesperson, said the Presidency was aware of the complaints by Nigerians of the timing of the documentary, but that it will proceed with airing the documentary on “The Human Side of Buhari”.

Read the full statement by Femi Adesina below:

THE BUHARI DOCUMENTARY: WHY WE’RE AIRING NOW

I have read a lot of reactions, particularly online, on the timing of the airing of the documentary on President Muhammadu Buhari, slated for December 24 and 25, 2017, respectively, by 8 p.m. on NTA and Channels Television.

Some of the comments are borne out of genuine concern, which we appreciate, while others are virulent, coming from inveterate complainers. Fault finding is the stock-in-trade of such people, and if they mistakenly find themselves in Heaven, they would even complain against God. They have no other pastime.

The reactions mainly dwell on the fact that a documentary showing the human side of the President (as against the well-known iron and steel) is coming at a time there is severe fuel scarcity in the country. And I say, why not? Is life all about doom and gloom? Must we sit in ashes and wear sackcloth perpetually, and ignore the brighter side of life? God forbid!

The current fuel crisis is a combination of snafu (Situation Normal All Fouled Up) in the distribution process of petrol (which the NNPC admitted at the onset of the problem), and deliberate mischief and sabotage by some marketers, who want to force the hands of government to increase the pump price. Then, the situation is further compounded by hoarding of products, and panic buying. And government is working round the clock to restore normalcy, which will come in a matter of time.

Should we then be perpetually like King Lear at his worst, and consign ourselves to the doldrums occasioned by fuel scarcity at a festive period? No. Despite the temporal pains, life must continue, and we must look at the cheery side, while government works hard to bring succour.

That is why I disagree with armchair critics, who wail at the drop of a hat. Millions of Nigerians appreciate President Buhari, love him passionately, and would watch the airing of the documentary, which shows the President in a perspective not very well known before.

It’s a spice for the holiday season, and not even ephemeral fuel crisis would dampen the enthusiasm of positive minded Nigerians.

This is the height of insensitivity!

They are practically shoving the glorification of the inept bastard that has failed to steer the affairs of the country for the benefit of the masses down the throat of the same downtrodden, poverty-stricken, broken masses. How can one so wickedly display some phantom human side when his conduct and the effect on citizens is anything but?

Life must go on? Is this life? Why then were all their forked tongues wagging when Jonathan went on a campaign while there was a self-inflicted bomb blast on Borno? Was that campaign not part of life?

Spice for the season? Southern Kaduna was just attacked by d president's kinsmen and that's some kinda spice? Ephemeral fuel crises? Adesina u deserve the worst kind of disease that will eat u alive and it will be regarded as ephemeral since u so callously disregard the suffering and hardship of Nigerians.

I am so absolutely disgusted! And sadly, all of these were seen and pointed out before elections in 2015 and now they are airing a 'carefully put-together' human side of that mangy scarecrow!

The presidential team is really aware of the fact that the usual regurgitation of "Mr Integrity " can no longer sell, hence the need to repackage him in clear preparation for 2019.

Well, I have known PMB and no amount of repackaging will change my mind and no media repackaging will change the character and content of a man who is above 70years. It's only the gullible that will fall for this.

This administration is very insensitive and bereft of management skillsets to run this country

Really? At a time the citizens are passing through very difficult times he choose to dance makossa on top of their heads.

What manner of insensitivity is this? At a time people are suppose to travel and holidaying with their loved ones; they are crippled by the non availability of fuel, when they are now forced to remain back in their homes to chill; walla, no electricity.

The President should be on a live TV daily appealing to people, but no; his media aide choose to insult the sensibility of the citizens.

The election year are gradually approaching where the people will speak the loudest.

They won an election over an incumbent, they as incumbent could also be kicked out. What manner of nonsense is this angry

So true and correct. I'll tell you guys why.

Today at the church, it was Thanksgiving day and I thought the crowd would be affected. Behold, I thought wrongly. The church was overfilled and people celebrated God as if there's no challenge at all.

After service, I'm at my In-law's place now. They're having a family get together, which was fixed for today since November, before the scarcity in December. The place is filled as well with merriment.

Hear this, not that all is well anywhere in Nigeria now, but are going to kill ourselves? Hell no. Life must continue as Femi said.

We must continue to pray, hope for the best and put more pressure on this administration to do the needful. Whilst at that, Life must continue.

You must eat in your house
You must feed your children
Bankers must be at work on Wednesday so we can see money to withdraw
People must visit Facebook and post on nairaland

Life must continue.

I'm here thinking of how I'll get myself to the airport tomorrow to catch up my Emirates flight. I must get there, either by taxi, uber or taxify

Life must continue and we will not jump inside river
