How to Identify FAKE(Low Quality) Power Banks(PBs).

Fake Power Banks! Hmm! They are very destructive and annoying, in the sense that they can damage your smart device or disappoint you when you need them most.

Unfortunately, they're all over the place in Nigerian markets today (with lots of funny brand names, if with names at all), due to the fact that Nigerians LOVE CHEAP ARTICLES with a passion.

The worst is that most low quality junk PBs are masquerading as quality originals, especially the fake Xiaomi MI brand.

Well, if you are in the market for high quality originals, pay attention.

Melon Devices is assuring you that all power banks are not the same; there are fake low quality ones and there are high quality reliable ones, eg Original Xiaomi Power Banks.

How do you now distinguish between FAKE LOW QUALITY and HIGH QUALITY RELIABLE PBs when you just see them in the market?

Don't worry, as a company that has been in the business of distributing HIGH QUALITY ORIGINAL XIAOMI(we added Original Pineng last year) POWER BANKS, for 4 years now, we have some ideas.

The following ideas will help you identify FAKES from ORIGINALs or vice versa:

1] Name and Logo.
Is the name and logo of the company that made it printed on the PB? Is only "Power Bank", "Made in China" written on it with some little information about power ratings?

If a Power Bank is not bearing the name or logo of the company that made it, it means the company is not proud to put their name on the device. The makers are not proud of what they made, cos they know its rubbish.

Why should you be proud to buy it? Drop it and leave joor?

2] Weight.
Is the power bank you're about to buy unnecessarily/seemingly light as compared to its capacity/amperage? Is 50,000mAH written on it while it weighs like a 5.0" smartphone or like a 6,000mAH power bank? If YES! Quietly relocate.

All ORIGINAL PBs are quite heavy as compared to their capacity due to the fact that they are made with high quality, high density Li-ion or Li-po batteries.

3]Automatic Charging.
If you plug in your phone to charge, do the PB start charging automatically? Or do you have to press the power button for the charging to commence?

If the latter happens, quietly disappear!!! There's a 90% chance the PB is FAKE, since the chip/micro controller, controlling all ORIGINAL PBs I have seen are thoroughly programmed to sense a device and juice it up according to its peculiar needs.

4] Self Charging.
Connect the output port to the input port. Did it charge itself? Is any of the indicator blinking? If YES! RUN!!!

This shows the PB has no short circuit protection. And if it doesn't have short circuit protection, there is a possibility it may not have other protections like Over/High-Voltage protection. Original power banks are made with well programmed high quality chips to sense devices, and once they sense themselves, they can't discharge. They are thoroughly short-circuit protected.

5] Pass-Through Charging.
Connect the PB to charge, connect your device to the PB. Is it charging your device while getting charged as well? If YES!, IT IS A GOOD PB. If NO!, Disappear!!!

All high Quality Original power banks I know supports pass- through charging.

6] Positive Popularity.
Type the brand name or the name of the PB on Google.com and YouTube.com. How many people all over the world did you notice using that exact power bank? What are they saying about the PB?

The user comments and experience are they up to 70% positive? I e are people saying good about the brand and PB? If YES! Go ahead! Pick up the Power Bank. If No! RUN!!!

If your search records very scanty or no hits, Google and YouTube. RUN!!!

7] Price.
If you see a 40,000mAH power bank for N3,000 when an ORIGINAL HIGH QUALITY Power Bank like Xiaomi MI 20,000mAH 2C sells for N13,000. RUN!!!

8] Authentication Seal/Label/Sticker.
Is there any scratch-off authentication sticker on the package of the power bank? If Yes! Go ahead buy the power bank. If No! Please drop the power bank and leave.

Melon Devices will be the last company to advice anyone to buy a power bank without AUTHENTICATION STICKER.

Below are pictures of Xiaomi MI power bank and Pineng Power Bank's Authentication Stickers.

May the truth set us free. Thank you so much.
