My Nexus Split Unit AC Outdoor Unit Trips Off Every 10 Minutes by bishopkay: 8:40pm On Feb 06, 2018
Hi please I don't know if this is the right section to post this but I need help.

I got a Nexus 1.5hp split unit AC December and yes I bought it brand new. But since yesterday, I've been noticing it trips off after 10 minutes and comes back on after about 15 minutes. Now I have experience with Air-conditioners and this is kinda strange to me.

Should I be worried? Should I call the dealership or a technician or it's a normal thing? If it's a normal thing, is there a way I can stop it? Everywhere hot now for naija oo I can't afford my AC tripping off angry sad

Better return it while its under warranty or regret it.

1. check your voltage supp;y, is it regular or fluctuating? For Areas with low voltage supply, 1hp (or 0.75hp) performs better than 1 or 2 hp
2. Check your remote setting..is it on timer? deactivate time setting or reset cooling temp

Thanks I'm certainly considering that option too

Thanks a lot for the reply. The voltage is stable here then about timing, no it isn't on timer.

How do I reset the cooling temperature? Is it by dropping the temperature again?

There's a reset pin. If it has a Digital screen, check if has not been unintentionally placed on timer or call someone to reset it for you. Alternatively, switch off completely for a while. Switch on, drop the temperature further to say 16C. What you are experiencing usually happens if temp is on 22-25C to keep temp at room temp.

Is there any danger if an AC is cooling but not dehumidifying? as sitting room stops bringing out water through its drain while it's still cooling. It happened, went back to normal and now it's no longer letting out water and it's been that way for a while now.

Thanks so much! I would go see what I can do about it today. I really appreciate the help

I agree low gas level or a bad compressor could also present such problems, but in OP's case., its a new AC and it's assumed a new AC should NOT have such issues. It must be the setting or low voltage. My first 1.5HP AC gave the same problems. After resetting it, I noticed the problem still persisted. It was the low voltage supply which really couldn't power up the compressor or sustain it when it picks. So I got a 5KVA stabilizer and that really solved the problem. Often PHCN claims of 220v is just around 180V or 200V at most! Electrical appliances require exact voltage specifications to function optimally.

It's a sign that your compressor is not cooling. Normally, once a compressor picks, cooling starts! then the cool air circulating through the copper tubes condenses humid air and turns the humid air in contact with it into water droplets.

I am really suspecting that if your setting is OK, your compressor is not fully engaged due to any of the following 2 reasons, namely:

1. Poor voltage supply
2. Bad compressor which may have been damaged by poor voltage. (in this case, if you return the AC, it may not be well received, because the problem was not the manufacturer's fault. this is the major reason why many people install voltage guard (just N4k/ or stabilizer to their AC. Compressors are very sensitive to voltage fluctuations and it could damage it.) When you first noticed it, you should have acted quickly to protect the compressor.

Low gas level should be the last and least likely culprit. Very rarely for a new AC to have low gas level as a problem, even in old ACs, it quite rare and it's a sign that there is a leakage somewhere along the copper tube. If you refill gas without patching the leak, in just 48hours everything vanishes again! it must be sealed. However, in this case, I will not suspect low gas since your AC is new, except if during installation the coppper tube was accidentally cracked by a rough & careless technician.

Hmmmm, thanks. voltage fluctuation is prolly the cause like you suspected, it's less than 3 years old. I'll probably contact an AC technician for an on the ground assessment.

I really appreciate everyone who contributed to this thread thanks for your time and I've learned a lot.

I am going to purchase a 5k stabilizer (even though the price for market no funny) cry then would see what happens next. Apparently the voltage here is 200v

haa..I was even thinking it's a newly bought AC, say 1-3months old. Abeg change your compressor and refil the gas grin

Stil use the stabilizer tho!

I love your reply and how you broke it down. I am currently researching for a solution to my own AC issues that's how I saw this thread.

Please I need your suggestion on my own AC issues.
- I bought 2pcs 1hp Midea ACs about 3 weeks ago. It came with free installation. So the sellers came to install it.
- We noticed that the both AC aren't working properly after 2 weeks of usage.
- I invited the installers again to come check it. They claimed my light was low. Checked gas and all. And concluded that the culprit is the low voltage. Adviced me to separate the two AC on the breaker, using 30amps for each. And I should buy stabilizers for each AC. WOW!
- I just bought 2 pcs of 5KVA Stabilizer, and did the breaker thing as they adviced.
- Now the ACs can work better. But they can't work at the same time. I am very confused right now. If you put on only one of the AC it works perfectly. Cools well. Immediately you put on the 2nd. The other stops cooling. Keeps blowing non-cooling air (i.e. only fan works)
- I've invited the installers again. I await their arrival next week. But I doubt they'll have solutions to this. Or I see them blaming my Voltage again.

PLEASE ADVISE ME, PLEASE

you see that your AC needs hmmm a sperate wire connection from your own phcn meter, without any load on it. The AC will run perfectly. Make sure you source it differently.

My brother, that's the issue. We have no meter in this compound. 4 flats. Sharing 2/3 wires that came from the PHCN pole. I share my 3 phases with only one tenant, though.
