Just thought I will post this for those upset middle class people who were livid with BBC for daring to post that 'rubbish' welcome to Lagos programme.  grin grin

Why we are not compelled to question our stereotypes about Africa?.
Thank for posting this video.

So people living in V/I and Lekki and cruising on boats on the lagoon are 'middle class'?

Pray tell - where do the upper class live? Are they in heaven? grin

Okay there was a programme BBC showed about Lagos last week called 'welcome to Lagos ' and which many Nairalanders felt was not a fair reflection of Lagos as a whole.

@poster, these pics still don't mean all is well. If we look beyond the beautiful pictures we'll see the true pics of Lagos. Over 90% of the people that work on those lush streets cannot afford to even live on the Island. And even the so called rich ones in Lekki and V.I don't have access to basic needs like water, electricity, security and health facilities. We all run our own local goverments in this place and have to provide all the basic amenities for ourselves.
Yeah, the pictures are fine, but I dare say if some journalist from the BBC digs into the lifes of people living and working in this pretty streets, there still wouldn't be much to be proud of.

I agree wholeheartedly with you, the video was only posted to appease the Nigerians who went berserk after watching the first episode of welcome to Lagos.

They thought it was not a fair representation of Lagos and would have been happier if BBC had taken the pains to show the good parts like VI, Leki, Ikoyi etc.

My argument at the time was who cares about the good parts when the majority of our brothers and sisters live a life of stress, albeit in a very fatalistic manner. They portray positive traits like a good team spirit, standing up for each other, trust, hard work etc,

BBC has done well. This programme (2 more episodes to come) will inevitably shame our leaders and maybe prompt them to do something, no matter how small scale to alleviate the burden of hardship.
