Mr Ben Okafo: which of these expressions is correct? Can I have a coffee? Can I have a cup of coffee? Facenglish: The coffee in question is an uncountable noun which doesn't take article " a" or "an". However, there are exceptions,most especially when drinks such as coffee, tea,beer,water,etc. are involved.For instance,we can say "can I have a coffee", to refer to a cup or glass of that drink.
