Has anyone got an actual experience of hotel reservations through Jumia Travel?

Hotel prices on their website is anywhere between 10% to 30% cheaper than booking.com, TripAdvisor, expedia etc which I thought might be due to the fact they're Nigerian company/advantage. They also give out discounts regularly

I've recently been reading some worring reviews about bookings done through Jumia- people turning up to hotels and front desk denying bookings or asking for higher prices than advertised

I've made use of their services twice and it turned out to be a lovely experience.

Hint: After making reservations with Jumia, always contact the hotel to confirm the booking. Try to also book ahead of time as much as possible.

I've used jumia travel many times and it's not a scam. Jumia travel is not a scam for the following reasons.
These hotels go through a rigorous process of getting enlisted on jumia platform and they know that they'll be kicked out of the jumia platform if they try to ruin jumia's reputation. Most of the time, customers are to blame because if you use the jumia travel to book your flights and hotels and the hotel do something wrong, they fail to report the hotel to jumia. I once threatened to write a bad review of a particular hotel here in port Harcourt on jumia , as soon as the hotel manager heard it, he was obviously frightened he started begging , that's when I knew most of their customers come from jumia and they will loose big time if jumia discovered their fraudulent activities and kick them out of their program. Remember jumia has its own reputation to protect.
My advice, book with the app or with a jumia agent (free of charge) call the hotel and confirm your reservation and make sure you let them know you are from jumia. They'll treat you nice. Nigerians should learn to report fraudsters not only on jumia travel but also on the shopping site as well. Enjoy

I wan use am book hotel for PMB in Daura against 2019

used them a lot while on Business travels for many years now (right from Jovago) and once they send to you confirmation email that the Hotel is expecting you..then no issues. Only twice out of more than 100 bookings have we had issues with the hotel rejecting the bookings-usually little-sized hotels that dont check their emails regularly to check notification emails.

I have been using Jumia Travel as far back as 2014 when the name was Jovago.
It has always been first class experience and i have enjoyed discounts ranging from 10% to 50% on room rates.

They are quite professional and are quick to resolve any issue between customer and hotel whenever such occur.

After booking on their website endeavour to call the hotel for confirmation.

Use booking.com. they are very reliable

The service actually works. If you worry that your reservation will be given out before your arrival, I will suggest you inform the call agent that will contact you of the time you intend checking in (they take note).

Remember that the reason hotels sell out reservation is because of the uncertainty with the guests. Try assuring them you will check in albeit late.

Of course, the only way to guarantee your reservation is to prepay. You can inquire about cancelation policy before making a commitment.

People just shouting scam up and down haven't even traveled before. I used Jumia recently and they gave me 40% discount, they even paid d difference. The hotel was fantastic and everything on point. Airport shuttle sef. But confirm d booking first. I will use them again!

First hand experience, i have used them multiple times. A good number of times, you get the discount only when the hotel has or expect less guests, but if the hotel has lots of its own bookings they will decline your Jumia Hotel booking because of the discount. This has happened to me in Lagos & Abuja.

Jumia is already a reputable organization in Nigeria. For example before travelling to Abia state, I checked for the Prices of Hotels in Umuahia and compared it to theirs, it is quite similar.

I use Jumia travels all the time for hotel reservations, it used to be Jovago in the past...

I have never had any problems and discounts are always applied.....

On occassions where the hotel is unreachable i am told to pick another or wait until they can finally contact the hotel.

It seem you may have gone ahead to the hotel without prior confirmation whether the reservation was actually made.

Another likely scenario is the person who took the reservation request at the hotel might have ended their shift and forgot to log the request.

I suggest you always request for the hotel's phone number(s) so you can call the hotel to confirm reservations and price after you have gotten booking confirmation from Jumia Travel agents.

I was in this exact situation last Easter. Both the room I booked for me and my family and the one for my friend and his family were never reserved. And they were different hotels. Good thing it was still day. It was on hotels.ng

I have actually used this Jumia Travel and found out that the price was cheaper through the Jumia Travel booking.
Very flexible and well delivered service.

It happened to me at Lokoja.The receptionist inflated the price and argued with me that the info i got on Jumia was wrong.I had to check in to a nearby hotel closer to the one i booked online.The only thing that helped that day was that i didn't pay in advance.
