Because of the limiting utilization of bananas, it less considered in comparison to plantain farming. There I was at the supermarket going through the flour section, which happens to be my favourite section whenever I find myself in a supermarket as I get to see and get inspired by seeing packs of carrot flour, banana flour, mango flour etc.

So I bumped into mixed flour of Durum wheat, Finger millet (I think the Hausas call it tamba) and dried ripe bananas. This is packaged as baby food, babies from 9 months old but when I have time for it an so having it for breakfast! cheesy because it is so appropriate for adults, shebi the sweet banana taste is the catch.

It was packed in 500g packs and selling for 175 shillings (about N630) and I will consume it about 3 times serving as pap alongside my moin-moin or akara.

The company producing it also have strawberry variety where it simply replaced the dried sweet banana flour with dried strawberry flour. I sensed it to be a new and small company but their packaging is so MVP! Called the firm and was told they will be adding orange flour and chocolate to their offerings by early March, way to go!

The real thing here is we really need to be creative in adding value to our farm produce. There is so much information on Google and YouTube waiting to be used to add value to what we already have and earn more.

Ripe bananas are sliced and dried within a controlled environment to make sure it retains its nutrients then flour is made out of them.

Is it mixed with any other thing before it's ground and how can I preserve it.

No preservative is added. For example the woman in the picture owns Kenya's Sweet N' Dried she uses automated air drier to dry the mango, like the one she is holding in 4hrs and they are packed with a shelf of one year. She also dries banana, cabbage, pineapple, pawpaw etc

20kg of fresh mango gives about 1 kg of dried ones and one can leave it as flakes or ground it and it sells for premium and available all year round.

Tonnes of mangoes waste in the rural areas.

Ok but you didn't add if any thing was added to the banana to make it a flour, because I feel the banana is for flavor, even though it is a cabohydrate, it don't think it is starchy enough to be a flour alone.

Also I don't know if you have a recommend automated air dryer

If you go back to my initial post, I did mention Durum wheat and finger millet. They all get blended.

For the machine you really need to google and YouTube search..

ok, though you made it sound as if the were different things.
If am to to understand durum wheat is mixed with finger millet and banana, I might have to call my cousins up north, for supply, any idea of ratio.

The are mixed up. The post where I had the woman was for flakes which can still be ground

As for ratio, you have to experiment to get the best mix.

undecided

So educating and expository. Value adding is key to everything. I'm taken aback by the fact that finger millet, mangoes, et al are grown and get to waste from my end of southern kaduna up to the jos plateau. Too bad.
