A guy posted this on his facebook page and it got people talking. My objective for writing this is to help anyone who may be experiencing a similar situation.

Tell me your own opinion. Do you think this kind of sperm sac will be OK for hatching? And what do you think could be the cause?

A lot of things are happening lately that is impacting on our livestock that I think fellow farmers need to be aware of. One of such is Climate Change (I am not saying that the picture in question is as a result of climate change yet). Most breeders have being complaining about low gravid nature of the female catfish breeder lately. Where about 2kg of of fish is giving less than 50gram of eggs. I think this is worrisome.

Let me know if you are experiencing this or better still tell your experience on breeding and breeding practises of late. I will come back to tell you the outcome of the sperm sac later.

2 Things can cause this. First is malnutrition or starvation. Second is age. If male catfish is too old, this can happen 1 year old male catfish of 1kg & above Is Ok
