Welcome to this wonderful thread about my wonderful Canine companion. Her name is "Trixie" and she's a South African Mastiff, aka Boerboel.

I'm sorry for starting this thread very late, I've been so busy but right now that I've started it, I'll try as much as possible to keep updating it.

Canine Details

Name: Trixie Bergy
Breed: South African Mastiff (Boerboel)
Sex: Female
Colour: Fawn
Date of Birth: December 18, 2016
Date of Arrival: February 18, 2017 at [8 Weeks Old]
Present Age: 1.2 Year Old
Details: Trixie is a Pure breed Boerboel, from a Litter produced by the professional and successful mating of an Imported South African Pedigree Stud and a 100% Pure bred Dam.

Late 2016, I met an old friend at a function and we started discussing Life, he has great passion for Dogs and I also have too though I don't really have the time. But he completely stirred my interest in getting a Dog and blending her into my life, when he explained into details some things I need to know and which breed will be fine for me. Since then I picked up a huge interest and started reading a lot about Dogs, watch unlimited YouTube videos and so on. I completely fell in love with Dogs !!!

Finally, I decided to get a South African Mastiff (Boerboel) but the challenge is getting a high quality one, as the ones I keep seeing around isn't exactly what a Boerboel should be like. Finally, I met a Dog Lover who just Imported a Pedigree Boerboel for his huge and gallant Pure Bred Female. I was so convinced with the quality of the Stud and Dam and finally when the Pups were ready, I didn't hesitate to secure a Pup even though I went far beyond my budget.

Fast forward to that very day I got my Pup, I traveled all the way to Lagos, just to pick Trixie and bring her home. She got her shots and was dewormed and on getting home. I fed her with Golden Morn, Milk and Egg before getting her Food and accessories the following day.

Picture 1: It's still her first day at home. She is kinda shy and unused to the environ cheesy
Picture 2: I got her a collar and other things she needed. I started training her about the 3rd day and she grabbed the 'SIT' command within few attempts. Ever since then, her SIT accuracy is 99% and she also pays attention too.
Pictures 3-4: So Curious and always wanting to explore her new Environment. smiley

More Pictures @ 10 - 12 Weeks Old.

Something about Trixie is that she's very active and playful. She started being like this the 2nd day she got home and since then, she has always been super energetic. During this period, she chew and destroy anything she comes across, so I keep most things away from her. The toys I bought her were all chewed into pieces within few days.

Also, she respond to all the basic commands during this time... SIT, SHAKE, COME, GO IN, LIE DOWN, EAT.

I also trained her not to Eat her food whenever I drop it for her until i tell her to. I must say she has Table manners and she isn't food aggressive.

Picture 1 & 2: Trixie is about 12 weeks old.

Picture 3 & 4: Trixie is loving her new environment. Just the two of us..!

When I got Trixie, I used to work and study.. Now, It's time to go back to School (I was in my Final year then). I cant just imagine leaving her at home for someone to care for her at that tender age. I love her company and being with her is so cool, I'll definitely miss her so much that my mind will always be with her. So, leaving her at home is not an option. Instead, I made necessary arrangements, I relocated from the small-spaced house I live in school to a flat with a very big compound and an enclosed balcony, in a calm and cool location that is perfect for a large breed.

Then, I traveled with Trixie to school (about 5 hours journey). She was stressed that very day but she loved the movement, it was fun. So many people like her but they are actually scared she'll hurt them. As a matter of fact, Trixie has traveled to so many places than some grownups grin Something I am so proud of, in my Dog, is the socialization. I socialized her so well to the extent that she knows how to behave anywhere, she knows the type of people that comes visit me. She can differentiate between a little girl she's seeing for the first time (be playful n gentle with her) and a male adult she's seeing for the first time, with full beards (sees him as unusual and a threat and act accordingly).

Taking Trixie with me to School back then is one of the best decision I made. One of my friends has a nice evening spot, where he makes Asun (Goat meat) and he blessed me so much with unlimited Goat meat and bones. cheesy At a point, that was what Trixie feeds on every night, while she eats Binggo in the morning. I also get remnants from the Chicken Republic around me, she feeds on that in the afternoon mostly. Despite all that, I still ensure I give her different food (Can food, Fish, Eggs) and shuffle when the need to arises. Thank God she isn't selective and eats anything I give her. At this point, Trixie's growth was so rapid and amazing, that people don't believe she's just a little above 3 months.

I Lost so many Pictures of Trixie, which I took when she was about 3 - 5 months. So I'll just fast forward a bit until I get to recover the pictures...

Funny enough, her best pictures were taken during these months. angry

She's about 6-7 months in the pictures below... Like I said earlier, Trixie doesn't eat her food until she gets her order to... Even when I leave her sight for some time (though, I don't try to stretch her patience past its elastic limit)

It was very easy, after teaching her the SIT and STAY command.

Whenever I bring her food, she gets super excited and start jumping up then I tell her to SIT, if she doesn't sit, I won't drop the food. Then she sits, so I drop the food and she dashes towards it and I withdraw the food and say NO, NO. She already understood NO to be a sign of disapproval. So I tell her to sit, stay and I point to the food and say EAT. In just two days, she understands that.

With time, it started getting perfect that whenever she sees me coming with her food, she sit down quickly and compose until I tell her to eat. Simply because, she knows that the earlier the better. I don't know if I'm explanatory enough on this but try search YouTube for more training videos on Feeding manner, it'll help a bunch. Thanks

There's something I really love and appreciate about Trixie. Apart from the times she received her vaccines and anti-rabies which in fact was administered at home. We've never visited the Vet or have any need to bring a Vet doctor home. She's been healthy all along and never fell sick.

My friend who owns a Rottweiler has visited the Vet so many times and have spent a fortune on his dog's health issues. He always envy and jealous Trixie. What a healthy dog..! Kudos Baby.

He posted a throwback of Trixie on his status and I quickly screenshot it cuz it's one of those beautiful pictures I couldn't find again. She's 4 months old in the pics
