If I may ask, after his prior breakdown, has he continued to see a psychiatrist and continued his treatment?

Many of the mental illnesses are managed for a long time and would require regular follow up care and adherence to medications. His current behaviour, both the sexual and the lack of motivation are typical symptoms of some mental illnesses and not because he consciously chose to be that way.
