My Experience With Global Technology Development by Layefa92(m): 2:33am On Mar 10, 2018
In 2015, there was a post on Nairaland warning people about a so called empowerment and skill acquisition company called Global Technology Development, they claim to be involved in various trainings such as safety, computer networking and engineering, catering, pipeline fitting and welding, crane operation and so on. As I write, they have concluded their activities in the riverine communities of Oporoza and Kokodiagbene in Gbaramatu kingdom of Warri-South-West Local Government Area and also in Arotoun, near Escravos in Delta State. If only I had seen that post earlier, I would have raised an alarm and would not have embarked on the long trip from Jos to my hometown for a so called empowerment programme. But I have no one to blame but myself for not doing a proper research on what I was about to venture into, though it is not too late to warn others that there are desperate groups roaming about communities to take advantage of the people and Global Technology Development do not fall far from this group of desperadoes.
The group claimed to be supported by the Government, NNPC, DSTV, GOtv, LG etc. hence, one would think that the fees have been subsidized and might get some benefits from the claimed sponsors but all these claims are false. Our suspicion led us to a thorough research on them and after our findings, we had a showdown talk with some members of the group, it was three weeks into the one month programme but a large number of them have left without our knowledge. It was during this meeting that a member of the group admitted that it was just a personal business and could not even give correct information of its legibility. I felt very bad to have been misled because prior to the beginning of the programme we were briefed by their director and he never mentioned that Global Technology Development was just his personal business, he even boasted of being a beneficiary from the training the company had provided. He told us about their head office in Palm Grove Estate in Ojota, Lagos and about their collaboration with Unity Bank to grant soft loans to trainees who would apply at the end of the training and I.T letters to be given to others to work in companies. But all these were false and their main agenda is not empowerment but to enrich their pockets. Registration fee was N4,450 and a further practical fee ranging from N12,000 to N55,000 depending on the type of training one wishes to undergo, but in less than two days, the director had started rallying for practical money stating that it will enable them put some needed things in order for the training to commence smoothly and quickly. The director disappeared after some days and nothing was heard from him till complaints started flying in from some of the trainees. My class especially was devoid of purpose and direction, a particular thing was repeated for two weeks and on the third week we could not use their computer for any successful work because it was bad, the class came to an end abruptly on the third week with little or nothing to show for it. Some trainees bought handouts that were made compulsory in their class while some persons under the crane section were taken to Warri for their practical but one of them came back complaining about the inconsistency of their instructor and his constant demand for money, according to him, they had only one training session in two weeks. Also some trainees who paid for registration and practical fee under pipeline fitting and welding in Kokodiagbene center never set their eyes on their instructor.
Many groups such as this Global Technology Development are miles away from providing the proper training a lot of people out there are seeking for, they claim to offer very affordable training but this is only a bait. Their legitimacy is questionable because they are not recognized as an empowerment or training center or group in Nigeria as they claim, you can verify this on www.vconnect.com or the Corporate Affairs Commission website. Many groups such as this are just hustlers and opportunists who are claiming what they are not. As at now, the only trace of Global Technology Development in the internet is a warning post on nairaland.com and a Facebook group with just 91 members, the views, likes and comments on their posts altogether are not up to ten, I believe it was recently created, their website is inaccessible and I doubt if they have an office address anywhere on planet earth, their instructors were hired and they have no ID cards. All these are highly unacceptable for a company they claim has been operating since 2014.
There are a lot of people in my shoe that have sacrificed their time and money only to end up enriching the pocket of some individuals all in the name of empowerment and training. I take this pain to write on their behalf and I believe we have learnt a lot of lesson from my experience, before venturing into things like this, we should do proper research, probe every probable and clear every doubts in order to avoid being misled.
In conclusion, I restate my claims that this Global Technology Group of people are operating on false grounds, they are not registered, neither are they recognized by any of the bodies they claim to be affiliated with, I also doubt the validity of their certificates because an unrecognized organization or institute cannot tender a valid certificate. If you see them in your community please question them, clear your doubts and if you are not satisfied, avoid them. Groups such as this are products of the harsh economic conditions the country is presently facing.
