LIBRARY CATALOGUE
The library catalogue is a record that show all the list of materials in the library collection. Library catalogue is a list of record that enable to know the total amount of library collection.

PURPOSE OR FUNCRION OF CATALOGUE
1. It helps to know the record list of the library collection.
2. It enable quick access to library materials.
3. It shows the location of materials on the shelves.
4. It encourage quick retriever access
5. Catalogue user to find books on same field.

What is cataloguing?
Cataloguing is the putting down the bibliographic information and technical details of materials into a catalogue card.

TYPES OF CATALOGUE

1. Card catalogue
2. Book catalogue
3. Online public access catalogue (OPAC)
4. Manchine readable catalogue
5. Machine output micro forms

CARD CATALOGUE

The card catalogue is a 3/5 inches card, bibliographic information are been put into the card and the card is in three format I.e the author card, Title cars, subject card. Materaisl may have more than three card when it as multiple author, title etc.

ADVANTAGES OF CARD CATALOGUE
1. it allow multiple acceas entry at the same time
2. It is easy to prepare and not expensive
3. It is easy to replicates
4. It helps user to relate with other author written
5. Cars catalogue is easy to use

DISADVANTAGE OF CARD CATALOGUE
1. It is prone to misfilling.
2. Many user believe to use catalogue card is difficult
3. To detect missing card may be difficult
4. Preparing of another card may be time wasting

BOOK CATALOGUE
Book catalogue is the oldest form of catalogue card, there are various kind of book catalogue some are hand writing, some are printed in form of a book and some are print from computers.

ADVANTAGES OF BOOK CATALOGUE
1. It is Handley to carry and read
2. It allow library cooperation
3 it is use in compilation of bibliographic

DISADVANTAGES OF BOOK CATALOGUE
1. it scattered the work of an author
2. It is expensive

COMPUTER OUTPUT MICROFORM
Is another form of catalogue. There are two types of computer output microform they are;-
1. Micro Fitch
2. Micro film
Information are been stored on the micro Fitch and the micro film, the microfilm and the micro Fitch can not be read by ordinary eyes but through the use of micro projector or microscope.

ADVANTAGE OF COMPUTER OUTPUT MICROFROM
1. It does not occupy too much space.
2. It is durable
3. It is also reliable

DIISADVQNTAGES
1. It can not be read with ordinrt eyes
2. It is expensive
3. Not easy to update

ONLINE PUBLIC ACCESS CATALOGUE (OPA)

Online public acess catalogue is the modern form of catalogue whereby the library make use of computer that has a large memory to hold bibliography description of library materials. The OPAC is firstly propounded by library of congress.

ADVANTAGES OF OPAC
The OPAC as all the advantage of other form of catalogue card.

DISADVANTAGES
1. It is very expensive
