Students of the Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (FUNAI), Ebonyi State in the discipline of Philosophy joined their counterparts from other universities in Nigeria for the 2018 National Association of Philosophy Students (NAPS) Symposium held at the Saviourite House of Formation, Enugu, Enugu State.
The 2-day national conference which brought together students of the philosophy discipline from different universities in Nigeria to share ideas and compare notes, and proffer philosophical solutions to the litany of sociopolitical problems confronting Nigeria had the theme “Nigerian Sociopolitical System and the Ways to Improve It.”


The University’s contingent was made up of seven students of the department of History and Strategic Studies/Philosophy/Religion. The students who participated in the annual event were Otubo Onyekachi, Charles Agwu, Okorie Obinna, Odo Francisca, Ndu Faith, Obodozie Chidimma and Ohaeri Silverline.
Recalling their experience at the event, the leader of team, Otubo Onyekachi noted that it was a congregation of all students studying philosophy in Nigerian universities, adding that it gave them ample opportunity to meet, interact and establish fruitful contacts with students from other climes.


He further stressed that the programme was interesting and educating; pleading with the university authorities to avail students with such opportunities in order to help them build bridges of academic friendships and establish possible linkages that could improve their capacities as students and help them on graduation.
Speaking on the rationale for the conference, the Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Charles Okolie noted that the event has helped in exposing the students in critical thinking and reasoning, adding that they had a good outing, as it also provided them with the platform to interact, debate and share ideas on topical issues affecting the Nigerian nation with students of other universities.
He maintained that the gains of the conference were enormous, ranging from exposure to capacity building of the students, stressing that such events also quicken students in the area of public speaking. He therefore assured that students of the university would always be encouraged and supported to participate in such intellectual invigorating events.
