The concept of hell and heaven presented by the scriptures have been so construed by conventional religion that today christians cannot identify purpose. Hence, the vast majority of the churches(especially in Africa) remain confused.

What says the scriptures?

First of all, God created Adam and Eve breathing his eternal life into them here on this earth, and they lost that eternal life and died somewhere as time goes on because they sinned. But Christ came and restored back that eternal life Adam and Eve lost, and he restored it here on earth and not anywhere else where christians are presumed to be raptured to. John 3:16, Romans 5:17.

Therefore, rapture is false.(there is no such word anywhere in the bible).
Rather, eternal life is now, it started the very day Jesus resurrected. Matthew 6:10, Matthew 16:19, Revelation 21:24.
By virtue of his resurrection, we are enjoying our eternal life here on earth today, we are not expecting anything again, John 19:30.
so just live your life freely.

Having said we are enjoying our eternal life here on earth, therefore heaven is already here on earth. Matthew 4:30-31

What then is heaven?
Heaven is simply the church, all christians on earth(irrespective of the sect or denomination).

Jesus says i will build my church and the gate of hell shall not prevail against it. Matthew 16:18

The word HELL or HELL FIRE was an ancient word or phrase used in place of what we know as grave today(hellfire, grave, death are one and the same thing). Meaning, hell is grave and not fire burning people.

Acts 2:27 because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell(grave),neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption(decomposition of the body in grave)..

So, when Jesus says the gate of hell shall not prevail against the church he literally meant the Christian(the church) will never die on this earth. John 3:16

Having said hell is grave or synonymous to death, there is what is known as the first death(the physical death) and the second death(also figuratively known as the lake of fire) . Revelation 20:14

Figuratively like a parable, it means death(no life or eternal life for the individual) and not fire burning the individual.

In summary,

-hell means grave or the physical death.

-The lake of fire is the second death(spiritual death) and it is not the same thing as hell or hell fire (find out how Jesus applied the phrase hell fire in his statements in Matthew)

- heaven is the church on earth and no where else. You have to enjoy this world.

So, when you here the Pope saying something like, hell do not exist, the man is obviously right and he is thinking faster than what conventional religion can offer.

He is making that statement from this stand point of view .
