Who is an Emir?
According to wikipedia, an emir is a world used to describe a leader in an Islamic Empire.

Who is an Oba?
An Oba is a ruler in a yoruba Kingdom, a flag bearer and preserver of the yoruba culture.

Just yesterday , Oluwo of Iwoland in Osun state, Oba Adbulrasheed Akanbi Speaking at the installation and turbarning ceremony of an Islamic scholar, Sheikh Yahquub Abdul-Baaqi Mohammed as first Waziri of Yoruba land, Oba Akanbi said he decided to now bear “Emir of Iwoland” because he wants to emulate the attitudes of northern Emirs.

I asked myself why will a well respected Oba make such a statement. Has he forgotten the history, has he forgotten about Ilorin.
If this man dies a real Emir and this will have real consequences on His people.

Can the Emir of Kano alter a statement like
" Henceforth i want to be addressed as OBA OF KANO".
With the current problems some regions of the west are complaining about in terms of unaddressed security challenges especially with the herdsmen who go around killing farmers, evading their farm lands and raping women.
Can you therefore blame some yoruba's for cursing the day this Oba turned Emir was born?

The yoruba muslims addiction to appease their muslim fathers from the north has seen them betray their people and culture on several occasions. This category of people have always had problem finding where their loyalty lie. "Their religion, their region or their tradition"?

But on most occasion they have stuck loyally to their Islamic religion.

I have always called the yoruba muslim the most unpredictable and dangerous specie in Nigeria. And if you look at every problem with Nigeria, you will find a fingetprint of a Yoruba Muslim.

Who is an Emir?
According to wikipedia, an emir is a world used to describe a leader in an Islamic Empire.

Who is an Oba?
An Oba is a ruler in a yoruba Kingdom, a flag bearer and preserver of the yoruba culture.

Judging by the above definition of emir and that of Oba we can say a muslim Yoruba king can answer the title emir and Oba at thesame time. when the king adress himself as an emir he is stating Islam he represents him first before every other thing.

Your statement that a Kano emir will not calls himself oba is correct. It's makes no sense for an emir from Kano to adopt the name oba. grin why would Sarkin Kano adopt oba titleship tongue is he a Yoruba or does Oba means an Islamic King

Emirs/Kings from ADAMAWA AND Gombe are adress as Lamido which means (Fulani King, in Fulani language) and another Emir of Kano whom is Fulani by ethnicity cannot be addressed as lamido but only as Sarki (Hausa King).....why would Kano king adopt oba ( A yoruba kingship title) when he can't even adopt lamido title ( his mother tongue Rulership title)

Be specific of why you are irritated by the action of an Oba undecided preferring to be called emir (Ruler of Muslims, Representer of islam) . I also think the new emir is trying to complete the Islamazation of his kingdom that his great grand parents started grin and that what you should be mad about, Because know you yoruba Christians are making it seems like ethnic matter.

(1)Emir is not a Hausa or Fulani word, heck we don't even don't even called kings emirs rather we call them sarki or lamido.

(2) Islam the religion which you Christians yoruba hate with passion, Hausa/Fulani don't introduce it to you people. Your people find it yourself and you yoruba enforce Islam on your own people. smiley

You people are frustrated because the new emir praises Northern Emirs and wears northern traditional clothes, That the only thing he adopted of hausa grin and is something less to be worried about. You should worry about more yoruba Christians and tradional worshippers are becoming Muslims (through the influence of yoruba muslim claric and yoruba muslim kings)

Please You christians should stop making unnecessary fuss and involving we Hausa/Fulani/Kanuri in your own problems cheesy

grin the king is still an Oba and is an emir aswell smiley he can be both so please let him be.

grin Kai 95% ai madam wanan is exaggeration. Be realistic the Islamazation is not yet complete. The Muslim Yoruba could probably make up 70% of the total population.
