It happened to me today i was so hungry i forgot to take water by my side.As i was munching the yam suddenly i felt a blockage i couldn't tell if it was my heart or my throat that got blocked. I wasn't my self,my eyes became red instantly,before i got to the fridge it was like i was about to die! I finally got water and drank it till i was fed i couldn't eat the food again. Pls don't try it.

it was kindda my fault cos i was eating in a hurry
the whole thing got stuck in my throat, even using water to push it down was a bit painful .

this shyte ain't funny especially when there is no water in site, it happened to me with rice as well. I simply collapsed on the floor until someone started pouring water in my mouth. be very careful when you eat stuff that usually requires water to go smoothly

you were simply eating too quickly. next time slow down. take small quantities and chew slowly.
drinking water during eating is not the best for digestion. it can even lead to heart burn and constipation.

Sorry! My close encounter was once when i was rushing ijebu garri with water. The garri particles were very fine and hence were able to clog up. I froze for like a minute till the thing started going down slowly, even water does not speed it up unless it's almost gone.
Yam experience? Nah, i dont really dig yam.

Try and go for a medical check up. Eating should not attract that much drama.
It could be an underlying problem but i hope its not in your case.

Its happened to me a couple of times and particularly when I was young, its basically when the food isn't well masticated and liquified before you try to swallow it, very painful and feels like yu're having a heart attack, you can't even scream in pain. There was a day it happened and I just layed down on the floor of our dining table. Gave my folks quite a scare.

so when i started eatin, i only ate just 5spoons of rice and drank water.
