Last week Saturday I was at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja & I saw 4G+ on my MTN Sim. Apparently this is not 5G it's supposedly faster than the normal 4G, even though the speed I got was average 4G speeds.
This first image was on Google speed test. The second and third was on fast.com
This evening again I was at Lokogoma inside Efab Estate & I saw it again as well as in Garki.
Note ur phone must support 4G+ before u can receive this service.
Who else has seen this on their phone?
What abt those in Lagos, have you seen it on MTN or any other network?
Cudos to MTN for stepping up their game hopefully this can get more coverage soon.

4G+ or LTE+, in most cases, suggests 'carrier aggregation'. Which simply means combination of two or more LTE bands to give better performance.

Now, since MTN supports LTE band 7(2600) and 20(800), i would assume it's the combination of both. But then again, the last time i checked, MTN was not allowed to use LTE band 20 on its MTN branded sims, except for its Visafone branded sims. That was why MTN decided to start issuing sims with Visafone number range. The MTN-Visafone sims are allowed to use both band 7 and 20, but the MTN sims are only allowed to use band 7. Maybe that has changed, so i'm not sure.

My questions to you guys are, are your MTN sims on the Visafone number range? That is, 0704? Also, Do your phones support both band 7 and 20?

For those who don't know, After MTN acquired Visafone, NCC refused MTN from utilizing Visafone's 800Mhz spectrum. But eventually, MTN and NCC reached an agreement that, in order for MTN to deploy its LTE over band 20(800), it must be on sims that are on the Visafone number range. That was why MTN started issuing sims that are on the Visafone number range.

4G+ is same as LTE-A which is ability to allow your device to send and receive data from two different frequencies (known as bands) at the same time, which translates to faster speeds. Not every device can do this, by ur screenshot this is probably one of those flagship Samsung phones that support LTE-A, and since MTN 4G is on band 7 and 20 ur device can take advantage of this feature.

Yeah I totally agree with you. It's the s7 edge. It's not very stable though plus I can't appreciate the speed difference.

All these Nigerian networks and their fictitious snail speed LTE... Minus Ntel I doubt any of the others are actually legit... Online game that we play with mobile networks, they usually indicate the Network type (either 3G or 4G or Wi-Fi) at the top left corner of the screen... I was gaming with 9mobile LTE but it still showed 3G... Meaning na lowkey 3G these networks dey nack us

Of course s7 edge supports LTE-A. Even galaxy l s5 does. If it's not showing on ur phone then it's from MTN, with time it will become stable.

U are probably trying to compare a fixed wired connection to mobile connection. Even in the us and some parts of Europe u can hardly get above 25mbps on mobile LTE, US is worse with an average of around 12-15mbps. Ntel is not as fast as mtn, I use both and have been using ntel for 1 year now, highest speed I've seen on ntel is 15mbps, I can easily get 40mbps on mtn sometimes.

Pic 1 is mtn right now
Pic 2 is ntel right now.

For gaming the ping is more important than network speed. If u can get just 10mbps with less than 30ms ping u are good to go, this is why I can't use my ntel on ps4 because the ping sometimes is too high, right now over 200ms while mtn is at 25ms. Though sometimes ntel also gives very good ping.
