actually what happened is that the seals in your compressor have failed (might have been made of teflon). this ends up forming crud that wreaks havoc on expansion valves /orifices and end up overheating the system.

this is usually a bad situation as compressor, expansion valve and condenser must be replaced and evaporator and cooling lines must be well flushed/ replaced.

Change all AC parts except AC blower. Retain only discharge and suction hose. But retaining this is conditional which is depends on how bad the black death was if excessively thick. Best is to have it replaced

having same issue with my Lexus RX 300.

it was leaking gas at compressor, the technician changed the seal, worked for two months next thing I heard is virus.

I have lost confidence in the whole thing.

@ inception, I'm having similar issues. My technician advised that I should replaced my compressor. While changing it, he found that my condenser had virus which was obvious.
We changed these two components, he flushed the cooling line and coupled everything back. While starting, cooling didn't take place but gas was escaping through vents inside the car. He now said the evaporator need to be replaced.
At that point, I was weak. No cash to do that. My question is at what point or what are the indicator to show a bad evaporator cos I don't want to hear another story again.

Possible cause of black debris in your car air conditioning system.
1,clogged condenser
2,blocked discharge hose
3,wrong compressor oil type
4,bad refrigerant
5,low or excessive refrigerant in the system
6,lack of vacuuming the system before refilling
7,raditor fan failure
8,electrical issue
9,faulty evaporator thermostat
10,blockage inside the engine radiator.

GOOD ADVICE.
But you don't need to change some part as mentioned above.
All you need to change is your condenser,discharge hose,expansion valve and compressor.
The evaporator can still be flushed but make sure they loose out the expansion valve before flushing and also the remaining pipes should be flushed.pls don't allow them to use fuel to flush your evaporator or cooking gas.buy methylated spirit or thinner Is better reason why is because they dry faster.
They should use normal compressed air to flush out the solvent.
Make sure they check your radiator fan.

Most people here gave excellent advise. The thing with car AC is a little mistake can mess up the whole system. Our technicians need to educate themselves some more, invest in better tools and patiently carry out car AC repair works. Modern easy to use and affordable tools are available to easily detect gas leakage, evaporator integrity without loosing dashboard, complete system flushing solvent (try Bethel flushing solvent....its excellent), and system vacuuming. All this has to meticulously done to achieve the best results. [color=#000099][/color]

I don't want to hear anything like changing eveporator again ooo! I changed mine on my corolla 2004 last 2 week, the whole dashboard had to be removed first. Spent the whole day at the technician's shop. Thank God it was successful

Please how can i tell if my expansion valve is faulty? These technicians want to bankrupt me o.
