Obasanjo Is A Wicked Liar by Orikinla(m): 12:27pm On Mar 14, 2007
I am not afraid to say this online and offline.
President Olusegun Obasanjo is a wicked liar. And the lie he told us on the health of Alhaji Umar Shehu Yar'Adua nearly cost the Governor of Katsina State his precious life as Obasanjo and his cabal of evil men in the People's Democratic Party (PDP) have been forcing the mallam to campaign in their greediness and wickedness to retain the post of the President of Nigeria at all cost and by all means.

"I know all about Umar's ailment and it has disappeared since 2001. It was a miracle. So those calling him a sick man are the ones who are sick. After all, only God can tell who is sick or not. I wonder how somebody can open his mouth and say that a human being created by God is a sick man".
~ President Olusegun Obasanjo speaking on the health of Alhaji Umaru Yar'Adua before Yar'Adua collapsed.

Falsehood As Statecraft
This Day (Lagos)

The lies being told about the state of health of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential flag bearer, Alhaji Umaru Shehu Musa Yar'Adua, has again shown how most Nigerian politicians especially those of them in the PDP have managed to elevate falsehood to the level of statecraft. In Nigeria , politics has become synonymous with deceit, duplicity and doublespeak. A typical Nigerian politician thrives on lies. He can even swear to an affidavit that he is a woman, when in actual fact he is a man. His electoral promises are never fulfilled. Look around you and you will see campaign posters all over the place.

On every such campaign poster you will read something like: "Vote for me. I am your new Messiah", " Lagos will become New York if you vote for me", "I have two heads to solve all your problems. So, vote for me". "I will eliminate all the mosquitoes in Nigeria , if you vote for me". But do you know one thing? When the politician making all these rosy promises gets to power, he will not remember any of the promises let alone the interests of the people who voted for him. He will be busy "settling" all his godfathers. Of course it is not only in Nigeria that politics and politicians have become words of great disrepute and abuse: politicians are the same all over the world. Was it Bernard Shaw who once said that democracy is a device insures that the people shall be governed no better that they deserve? But why the politics in Nigeria is so nauseating is that the Nigerian politicians are so contemptuous of the Nigerian people that they continue to feed them with one lie after the other.

The most annoying aspect is that they use the name of God in telling lies. If Alhaji Yar'Adua had not collapsed and rushed abroad for resuscitation, the people would have been let into the great secret and cover-up about the state of his mortal illness. Soon after the emergence of Yar'Adua as PDP Presidential contender, the issue of his kidney ailment and the problems associated with it, were brought to the front burner, Yar'Adua quickly lied that he was very healthy. To buttress his argument that he was swimming in good health, he challenged those doubting his good health to a 12 straight-game of squash. In his usual reaction, President Obasanjo, opened his mouth and said: "I know all about Umar's ailment and it has disappeared since 2001. It was a miracle. So those calling him a sick man are the ones who are sick. After all, only God can tell who is sick or not. I wonder how somebody can open his mouth and say that a human being created by God is a sick man".

As if God was annoyed that President Obasanjo was using his name in telling a lie, He allowed the unfortunate incident of March 6 to happen: He allowed Yar'Adua to collapse. I am very happy that Yar'Adua is alive. As a humble, unassuming, mature and calm politician, my heart yearns for Yar'Adua. I agree with him that it is wrong to wish our fellowmen death. But by telling lies about the state of his health, Yar'Adua has broken faith with the Nigerian people; he has betrayed the trust so many of his admirers reposed in him. The people may come to the conclusion that a man, who is deceitful about the state of his health, could be also be deceitful in the way he governs the country, if elected as President. The importance of truth telling is not just a pious aspiration. It is at the heart of the national conscience. Telling the electorate the truth about the state of one's health is derived from the law of Allah. Whether they like it or not, all politicians stand before the transcendence of Allah. Some of the national ethics enshrined in our constitution are integrity and patriotism.

By resorting to dissimulation about the state of Yar'Adua's ill-health, the PDP may be sending the wrong signal to the electorate that it has some secrets to hide from them. But Yar'Adua, Obasanjo and PDP chieftains may argue that health is unpredictable. That a healthy person today might suddenly fall ill tomorrow and die. They may cite the cases of healthy people who went to bed and never woke up. I doubt if this defence would avail them. I am not a medical doctor, but I know one or two patients suffering from a kidney ailment. I had once followed the medical history of one kidney patient who unfortunately has passed on.

We also know that a successful kidney transplant only prolongs the life of the patient for a while. Contrary to Yar'Adua's view, Nigerians are not itching to know the state of his ill health in order to pull him down. They are itching to know so that they can pray for his miraculous recovery (Nigerians, according to the BBC verdict are the most religious people in the world). So, why all these lies? Besides, since Yar'Adua has publicly declared his interest in contesting for the seat of the most prestigious and exalted office in the land, public interest dictates that his medical history be brought to the public domain for examination and verification. Pursuant to section 144 of the constitution, the Nigerian electorate is interested in knowing whether Yar'Adua is suffering from "infirmity of body or mind" which will render him incapable of discharging his functions as President, if elected as one.

In the United States and other countries, it is taking for granted that a candidate jostling to become the President is not afflicted with any dangerous bodily or mental ailment If I were Yar'Adua I would place my good health above the ambition to become the President of Nigeria. After all, what does it profit a man to gain entrance into Aso Rock at the expense of his life? I think that in this matter of health, Yar'Adua should listen to his private physicians or members of his family. He should stop listening to President Obasanjo, Ojo Maduekwe or any other PDP chieftains who are only interested in the profit they will get when a Yar'Adua becomes the next President There is a time for everything under the sun. Our political office holders cannot continue to be deceiving us all the time. A time has come for the Nigerian electorate to sift the corn from the chaff. We are even suspecting that some of our present political office holders are mad. The way they open their mouth to talk; the way they respond to criticism; the way they try to suppress the opposition; their thirst for power shows that they are suffering from madness or one mental delusion or another. Having unmasked the presidential deceit, the electorate must decide whether to vote a sick candidate or a healthy candidate in April presidential election.

Nairaland is not like a human being who dies and all its has dies with it.

Revisiting a dead thread might bring about new info, an eye opener or could be quoted for better/future use.

The most important point of the Artcile is line  1 of the 3rd paragraph which was written nearly three years ago, as relevant as if writen yesterday or today.

'The most annoying apsect is that they use the name of God in telling lies'

They even employed dishonest prophets both Christians and Muslims to buttress those lies.  YAR A'LIAR prayed 5 times a day and subject ordinary people to untold hardship.

May God bring his wrath and judgement upon the wicked leaders immediately. They should all die painfully NOW in the name of whatever god they prayed to. AMEN

Which is correct people?

1. President Yar'Adua is refusing to step down on health grounds. OR
2. Some people are doing all they can to pressure President Yar'Adua to remain in power.
