The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the sum of N18.874 billion for the renovation of the 3rd Mainland Bridge in Lagos.
The contract was awarded to an Italian construction firm, Borini Prono, which originally constructed the bridge, Vanguard reports. The minister of power, works and housing, Babatunde Fashola told newsmen, shortly after the FEC meeting presided by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo that the renovation work was conceived in 2011 but was not captured in the budget.
Fashola said the contract which is expected to be completed within 27 months has now been captured in the 2018 budget with a sub head of ‘Bridge renovation and repair contracts.’
He explained that the project will involve the replacement of 33 piles at the first phase with a total of 177 piles to be strengthened in all.
He also said expansion joints linking the bridge together would be assessed with a view to replacing the obsolete ones.
Fashola also announced the approval of N64.108 billion for additional works on section one of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway by the FEC.
He said the additional works in the project is about 43.6 kilometers including the construction of pedestrian bridges and toll plazas as well as modification of the quality of bitumen.

Good work Fashola but works should manage the construction period so that pains people will go through should be minimized.
