Operation stop Jonathan
Northern Elders Assembly moves to stop Jonathan
From DESMOND MGBOH, Kano
Monday, May 24 , 2010

A pan- Northern pressure group, Northern Elders Assembly, has expressed disgust over attempts to circumvent the principle of zoning and power rotation entered into by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying the ploy is unjustifiable and a contravention of the spirit of the arrangement for power to reside in Northern Nigeria for eight years.

The Assembly in a meeting in Abuja, last week, urged all Northerners, irrespective of party or political affiliations, to come together and present a united front in defending the right of the region to produce the next president of Nigeria in line with the arrangement already in place as the Southern part of the country had already had its turn.

In a communiqué, signed by a former minister during the regime of General Sani Abacha, Alhaji Bashir Mohammed Dalhatu and released in Kano on Sunday, the Assembly said it was ironic that the North was being shortchanged by the people it was trying to assist given that, “Zoning and rotation formula was an innovation that originated from the North in order to make it possible for the minority elements, particularly, from  the South to be able to access power at the highest level in the political equation in Nigeria.”

The meeting chaired by a First Republic Acting Prime Minister, Alhaji Inuwa Wada had in attendance Northern elders such as Alhaji Bello Kirfi, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai, Hajiya Laila Dogon Yaro, Alhaji Umaru Baba, Senator Abubakar Mahdi,  Alhaji Zangon Daura, among others.
The Assembly appealed to their respective state governors in the North “to demonstrate exemplary leadership in this crusade and replicate the selfless and heroic sacrifices made by some of their predecessors against Obasanjo’s attempt to elongate his tenure.”

The Assembly also objected to the way and manner the immediate past chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Vincent Ogbulafor was forced to resign his position simply because he insisted on the adherence to the party’s zoning arrangement.
The Assembly equally frowned at the appointments made by President Goodluck Jonathan in the Ministry of Petroleum and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, saying they clearly amount to a violation of the Constitution he swore only recently to uphold.

In particular, they complained bitterly about the changes made in those outfits since the coming of the new administration, noting that, “out of the 20 officials of the ministry, 10 are from the South-South geo political zone, the area where the President comes from, with the whole of the North having only four, while the South-East and the South-West have two each.”
The group said it would, therefore, send a high-level protest delegation to the President of the Senate and would also meet with the Northern caucuses in the both chambers of National Assembly to make a case against the emergence of those negative tendencies which, the leaders said, were capable of affecting the political stability of the country.

The assembly also planned to set up three different delegations, one per geopolitical zone within the North, to visit state governors, traditional rulers, religious and cultural bodies to brief them on the recent developments.
Also disturbing to the Northern Elders Assembly is the “overwhelming and overbearing influence of former President Olusegun Obasanjo over President Goodluck Jonathan and his administration,” as the group argued that the presence of the former president would make it difficult for the administration to successfully fight corruption.

“It is clearly obvious that most Nigerians believe that former President Olusegun Obasanjo is himself, a strong suspect of corruption charges, which still remains to be investigated,” they concluded.

I'm very grateful for Northern friends to the south-south organization for their view to disregard zoning formula which is unconstitutional and their support for Goodluck Jonathan 2011 race.

We are tired of selfish people who have only their immediate family in mind and helped in destroying us in the pretense of fighting for the north. They only fall back for the sympathy of the northerner when they feel marginalized.

I want inform all those so-called "Northern leaders" that Goodluck Jonathan has come to stay, and he will insha-Allah go beyond 2011, our concerned group are working hard on sensitization and enlightenment programs to vote for Goodluck Jonathan come 2011 will not vote for anybody from the north, because they got nothing to show us after all these years of rule.

Long Live Goodluck Jonathan and Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

let Jonathan actually focus on doing something instead of all this politicking.
If he doesn't deliver on something tangible in the next couple of months (and please, don't mention the Amnesty programme) he definitely is not getting my vote.

This is just absolute rubbish, what do these old people who constitute themselves as the northern elders assembly think of Nigerians, this old bags are just noise makers since when did it become mandatory for people to rule for 2 terms since they say they are supposed to have 8 years to rule. Please and Please some one should give these noise makers a copy of our constitution (if it has already been changed secretly to suit their purposes) as well as a copy of the human rights declaration article. Why are they wagging their tongues between their teeth, let everyone who deems his/herself fit come out and contest and let the electorates be left with the decision to make as to whether the north have 8 years or 20 years. Nonsense,

Is he from your village. there would be a Yoruba on the ticket and that is where the Yorubas would vote for. Look Jonathan have refuse to perform reform. He has been in power for 7 month. And it tell you where is heart is.

The bible says a man heart is like a deep well. It take a person of wisdom to drawn from it.

And anyone who is not ready to see justice done to the Yorubas  either is Obasanjo or tinubu , or who ever , the yorubas would not vote for him, we dont care if that person is a southerner.  Ask yourself this question, Do you think the average yorubaman care for obasanjo or this politician, they dont. The average Yoruba man care for the future of his next generation.

And if he unfairly treated And Jonathan is president and refuse to make a change. Give us one reason why the Yorubas should vote for Jonathan. One reason I ask.  Because I know someone does not means I would sacrifie truth for bribe or contract, We all know the Yorubas men who can sell thier mother for money. Go meet them. I dont want to name people. And some of them parade themself as if they are Yoruba leader. How can someone who is a selfish man and does not care for an average Yoruba think he is a yoruba leader, when he has award all contract and stole from the people  and he is part of those who made them to suffer.

Do you think he consider Yoruba as complete human who merit reform. ask yourself. If his heart is in the right place. He should carry out reform before election. the bible says "DO unto others what you want them to do to you. "

To be honest with You. The Yoruba are not going to Vote for Jonathan if there is no reform before the election.  NO REFORM , NO VOTE.  ( NORENOVO )  Enough is Enough

Re: Jonathans Popularity On D Rise, Selfish Northerners Whipin Up Sentiments by Becomrich7: 1:13am On May 25, 2010
I am going to tell you why Jonathan need to believe reform. If Jonathan does not support reform.

Ask yourself. Do you think the far north would vote for him. Go ask any nigerian. Awolowo tried, Zik tried. Even Obasanjo only win kaduna and state with largest city where the elite are.

Now, look at Obasanjo, Why did you think Obasanjo pick atiku and did not pick a fulani/hausa/ Because he could not count on winning those state. because they vote in bulk. obasanjo knows, north politics very well. So he went for atiku to capture the vote of the minority. But jonathan did not do the same. He gamble with trying to capture the vote of the fulani/hausa people. Which history tell you. It is close to impossible. leaving the vote of the Yoruba unprotected. Which leave him open to 2 attack during election.

Attack 1 from the fulani/hausa politician
Attack 2 from the Yoruba politician.

Now If he does not do reform to get the yoruba vote. They would not vote for him. If he does reform or does not do reform, the fulani/hausa vote is close to been impossible for him to capture.

So you see, he has only one option.

Becomrich7, You act like the Yoruba vote is monolithic. It is just like the Igbo vote. All split up. Only the North has a monolithic vote since they are brainwashed.
Re: Jonathans Popularity On D Rise, Selfish Northerners Whipin Up Sentiments by Becomrich7: 1:46am On May 25, 2010
Where are you from jupital. Yoruba vote is monolithic. it is not like america. People go out and vote for thier ethnics group in africa. What pay thier ethnics group.

All election done in Yorubaland. Who ever wins. win with 90%.

You see, I say michelle Obama and Michaëlle Jean. are Yorubas. You see michelle may have never step yorubaland once in her life. If she run for election with any other ethnics , just the fact fact that she is Yoruba is 90% of the vote. Even if she does not show up for the election. If you doubt Michella Obama or Michaëlle Jean can pick any state in Yoruba land , they want to be governor. And in 2011 even without showing up, she would be governor. And the UN can go and count the vote.

Africa is a funny place when it comes to election. They call it omo ni eje ose.  It means "It is our child let him win"

This is how africa works. If you look at a particular lawyer who have been given a governor problem , you would discover, he may be doing it for ethnics group. Even nigeria govt arrest and informing interpol are mostly based on ethnics hate. This is the problem africa has.

Do issue is, do you believe in justice for other. It is only a wicked man that does not believe in justice for the Yorubas. This is what the election is all about.

If Jonathan believe he has to turn away Justice for the Yorubas, do you think, the Yorubas too, have no moral stand to turn Justice away from Jonathan.  This is the question he has to ask himself before he goes to sleep.   He can go and try the fulani/hausa and visit the tomb of Awolowo and Zik and ask them how difficult it was to get that vote.

It is an issue of asking what God want him to do , either he his on the side of God and the yorubas or He is on the side of the devil and injustice.

roadstar they dont have a long way to go. If people are cheating you. Or someone support injustice you. What do you expect the people to do. Vote you roadstar. If you dont stand up for justice, why would people stand up for you. It is a question Roadstar.  It is a Godly and moral issue.

Look when Obasanjo lock Asari Dokubo up. I went to lawyer without borders for help, But I did not believe in bombing up pipeline. NO ,  but there is a moral to the issue. God place Obasanjo there to correct the injustice. And he later release Dokubo from jail that month.   I know if Dokubo die in jail. Nigeria was going to be in problem with the international community. And sanction upon saction and the people would continue to suffer. Nigerian have suffered for what they do not know anything about.

You see me, this way. I am your eyes. If I did not try to get Asari Dokubo out of jail. Even Obasanjo may have end up in the International Court of Justice, the ICC. The Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, is wanted by the ICC. President are in jail nowadays. International Court of Justice, could have picked Obasanjo up if he die in jail.

Why do you think I post the satellite picture. so that you people could see it the way the international community is looking at it.
Re: Jonathans Popularity On D Rise, Selfish Northerners Whipin Up Sentiments by Becomrich7: 5:15am On May 26, 2010
One of the problem we have is international laws are changing. And Africa would get into trouble. You cant lock up people without prove. or no reason. Asari and all those bombing the pipeline are wrong for bombing up the pipeline. But the nigeria system push them into it. They could not get justice for thier people in NIgeria. Now politician are stealing the 13% Asari and the others went to jail for. May I ask, did Asari ever enjoy N1 from the 13% derivation, politician from the south south are now buying houses in London or dubia with.

Some president have already gone to jail for crime based on ICC ruling. Even if Asari Dokubo died in Jail. When ken saro wiwa was killed. All nigerian suffered for many years. I dont share or believe in violent. Noone should use violent to solve a situation. two wrong do not make a right.

People do not have to bomb up pipeline  or kidnap people to prove a point. We may have a very bad court system. But there are other ways we can deal with the system. Obasanjo is working free everywhere. But I doubt if he too really know what could have happened to him, if Dokubo have die in jail. Obasanjo may have been taken to ICC.

We need a new court system in nigeria. Slobodan Milosevic, the former president of Serbia die in jail at the ICC.
