Please Help Me Interprete My Glucose Blood Sugar Result! by binhozie(m): 8:46am On May 26, 2010
I went for a blood sugar test yesterday as i am guilty of excessive consumption of sugar. I'm a sugar addict, with a daily average of 5 soft-drinks (coke, fanta e.t.c) for a period spanning  over 10 years. To make it worse, i'm not active. I dont play any sport and i dont do any exercise. Incidentally i'm slim, or should i say thin. Recently i developed some funny symptoms: Costant Urination, Excessive Hunger, Excessive Thirst, Fatigue.
To cut a short story even shorter i went for a blood sugar test (due to my guilty conscience)
The lab tech asked if its fasting blood sugar test. I didnt understand. He asked if i'd eaten. I said yes (about an hour ago)
He took my blood, and after blinking for a while, the machine showed 110.
Now i dont know about blood sugar ranges, but this one looked pretty low to me. He told me if i didnt believe it, i could take another test on another machine, but i'd have to pay again. I told him not to bother.
Please what does 110 mean. Am i alright? Can i continue taking sugar, cos right now i'm thirsting for la casera, my new love.
PS: We dont have any history of diabetes in my family, and I'm 23 years

sorry your question was ignored. could be that you started it on a low traffic day. if you had asked on the doctor's thread, you would have been promptly replied. i'll suggest you do that next time you something like this happens. now lets talk about your tesult.
first, you should know that your sugar consumption is very unhealthy and it can lead to type 1 diabetes (which unfortunately contain some of the symptoms you listed).
i'm afraid your glucose result is quite unclear for me to translate for you because (1) i don't what kind of test you took. (2) i don't know what unit the result is measured in.
for you to be properly diagnosed as diabetic, you have to carry out a series or glucose tests

Fasting blood sugar (FBS): this test you have to do in the morning before you eat anything. it has to measure up to 126mg/dl for you to be diabetic. if this is the yardstick for your test, then 110mg/dl is classified as pre-diabetic. you have to be careful about your sugar consumption or you'll find yourself in diabetes land.
Random blood sugar test (RBS): you get tested without necessarily needing to fast. the result is same as above
oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT): you're fed with glucose solutions and your blood is tested every 3 hours. for you to be diabetic, the results have to read 200md/dl.

so as you can see Mr.binhozie, your health is at risk. is up to you. reduce your sugar intake, substitute sugar for honey and eat more fruits and vegetables. goodluck

Binhozie,
Im afraid all the 'drs' who wld have answered u have either been chased away or couldnt care less about posting here.
Like Dominik said, try getting help with Balogun upstairs or find a clinic.
Hopefully seun osewa will appoint a resident physician for this section, like other serious health sites on the net.

I did mine a couple of weeks ago. It showed 95, which the Dr said was ok. I learnt teh normal range is 75-115, so I'm within normal range. Your own too appears under normal range(110), although e don dey move near boundary o(115).

In any case, you should have asked the Dr to interprete your result for you before leaving teh hospital/lab.

Alright, so according to your post, your blood glucose was 110mg/dl and that was 1hr after eating, Ok, so I'm going to explain a few things,

When it comes to testing the blood for glucose, there are several tests I as a physician can order but the most common are:

1. Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS) aka. Fasting Blood Glucose, Fasting Plasma Glucose - This test measures how much glucose is in your blood after an overnight fast. But generally, the overnight fast lasts between 8 and 12hrs. An 8hr overnight fast would mean that you eat nothing between 10pm and 6am, for example. At the end of this period, blood is drawn and its glucose content is analyzed.

2. 2hr post-prandial glucose test - This test follows the FBS. After blood is drawn for FBS, you are allowed to eat. Your blood sample is then drawn 2hrs after food intake.

3. Random Blood Sugar (RBS) - A random blood sugar like the name implies is RANDOM. This test has no regard to time or whether or not you ate 30mins, 2hrs or 5hrs ago. In your case, the test you had done was actually a random blood glucose test.

Normal blood glucose range: 70-110mg/dl

The American Diabetes Association's criteria for diagnosing diabetes mellitus include:

Any combination of the ff. findings or confirmation of any of the individual findings by repetition on a subsequent day:

i) Symptoms of diabetes + RBS greater than 200mg/dl
ii) Fasting Blood glucose greater than 126mg/dl after a minimum of an 8hr fast
iii) 2hr post-prandial glucose greater than 200mg/dl

Impaired fasting glucose (IFG) and Impaired glucose tolerance (IGT)

If your FBS is between 110 and 125mg/dl, then you're said to have impaired fasting glucose and if your RBS or 2hr post prandial glucose is greater than 140mg/dl but less than 200mg/dl, you're said to have impaired glucose tolerance.

What's the importance of IFG and IGT?

IFG or IGT, if left untreated is high risk to develop into type 2 diabetes within 10years.

Hope this is helpful even though, I had to do this in a hurry,

Binhozie, as long as your body water is polluted any thing you ingest will be a fruitless exercise. Your body is 70 % water. When the PH of this body of water is not balanced, there would be problems. What happens when you pour Garmalin in a body of water? Every life there dies. In like manner when our blood with a composition of 95% water is polluted it generate issues we cant handle.Acidity (low pH balance) is the root of most sickness and degenerative diseases.
A wide range of sickness and disease will NOT gain a foothold in the body if the body has the proper pH balance. Serious illnesses including cancer, over weight and many other major degenerative diseases can be fought off by the immune system of the body. The inner workings of the body improve DRAMATICALLY as the "inner ocean" of the body is cleansed through reduction of acidity. The body is 70% water. As the water is "purified" through better pH balance.
Benefits:Fat Metabolism
Insulin Production
Healthy Oxygen Flow
Smooth Blood Flow
Blood Pressure Regulation
Lipid and Fatty Acid Metabolism
Cellular Regeneration
DNA-RNA Synthesis
Electrolyte Activity
Access to Energy Reserves.
