Please, is this normal, to me it's outrageous, even if there's gonna be any duty, it should not be beyond 15%.

I need your advises and guidelines, pls.

It was bought for 310k, 50k for shipping from US to Nigeria and now I'm facing 81k charges

in other words, you're gonna be paying 131k just to import the phone, over 40% of the phone's real cost... Why not travel out to the country where the phone is being sold?, buy the phone and return back to Nigeria with it... That way, i get to comprehend why you're spending that kind of money just to import a phone..

You have 2 options....

1 - Pay charges and receive goods
2 - Forfeit goods and hopefully they send it back and you claim a refund (less postage)

You will pay that money or you forfeit your package. I have used FedEx and since they treated my Bleep up, my eyes opened because I cried small. I bought something of about $40 and pay $70 and still pay abt $200 for clearing then. because your package is not with them but with the customs. Unless you pay within that timeframe they gave you and they will clear it on your behalf or you loose it to naija customs.

Sorry uncle. I don't know if it's only fedex that they see to charge for import duties. I shipped hair to South Africa, this happened.Used them to Namibia and Ghana, same story. Wheras i used courierplus, no issue! Even sending through Nigerian Registered post doesn't incur these charges. Just go and pay, or kiss your phone bye. Me importing hair in serious commercial quantities sef hasn't been billed 81000 by customs before. Haba, na range rover u wan clear abi wetin? As fedex don involve, you can't tell the exact custom warehouse the phone would be taken to if you don't pay. From there, custom guys i know can help release it with like 20k max.

Meanwhile iPhone X 64gb is 400k at slot. Some vendors sell for 365k ok Konga while the 256gb version is 388k on Konga .

I'm only requesting for help or suggestions on what to do as a sane man who would not wanna rely only on his own understanding, I neva said I can't pay, as a businessman who has been doing this before, I already made my calculations that the landing cost would be around 330-340k, but the third party shipper which some are suggesting caused the high shipping rate, I had to accept not knowing it customs issues would still come up, I never wanted to use fedex, I always have dissatisfaction with them,

I'd like to thank all that gave useful suggestions without bashing, those that were negative too, thank you, it's a business, we should expect profit and loss, win some loose some!

N.B it can happen to anyone anytime, we are suppose to help each other not being negative to pull one's heart down.

My major fear right now is Fedex must have added to the customs duty since they're the ones I'm communicating with, and they are not gonna provide a receipt for the payment, how do I trust them, since other people too complained abt them in particular.

You don't have much of an option really,I've been in the same boat after using MYUS.COM to ship a Galaxy Tablet and FedEx as the Courier..it's all rather random as I had been using it without any issues..
Next time I suggest you use some of Nairaland shippers as I never had such an issue with them..

What you guys don't know is that the so called customs of fedex is still FedEx in disguise. They are located within fedex facility and most probably influenced by them probably cos they have their cut.
