The first few jobs I did when I got to Canada while studying, I had a girl talking to me at my place of work; a carribean background but canadian born and raised. This girl was asking questions about where I come from given my (Nigerian) accent.

I was happy to respond to all her questions and I was able to throw some questions at her too which she responded to with a reciprocating attitude.

When she knew I was Nigerian, she kept mute for a moment, and I was able to sense that if anything was going to come out of her mouth, then it is likely to be something bad, her attitude changed that moment but immediately I told her that i had to get back to work as our lunch break was over.

The following day, I went to where we store our bags to pick up my charger and this girl saw me there and she made this statement "HE IS A NIGERIAN, LET ME PUT MY CREDIT CARD AWAY", I felt so dejected upon hearing that but had to put on a fake smile, she went ahead and announced to all the other staffs in our department that "THIS DUDE IS NIGERIAN (as if they didn't already know)GUYS, COME PUT AWAY YOUR STUFFS", she was saying all that jokingly or maybe she just intentionally and unapologetically completed her unfinished stament from the last discussion we had.

Fast forward to the second job, I met this very nice guy there, but to cut the long story short, he said he knew Nigerians are very smart, he then asked me the type of program I was in school to ascertain his one type of "Nigerian smartness".

He said, he likes rolling with Nigerians that they have this other type of smartness he was really trying to talk about. I got his drift, but made it seem like I did not.

He then laughed at me, and said "WHAT TYPE OF NIGERIAN ARE YOU?", I giggled, and asked him to tell me what he meant. He however asked if I know how to get people's credit cards info in order to cart away their money. My facial expression changed instantly and he was like "YO BROSKI, I AM KIDDING" .

Fast forward to May and June, while studying and working along side, I decided to bring back my old Naija hustle which was selling of phones, I put up some phones for sale on few online classified advertising platorms and my first customers were my brothers. NIGERIANS THAT LIVE IN NIGERIA!

Hiding behind "FAKE CANADA AND U.S NUMBERS" trying to scam the seller (me). To them they thought it was another gullible white fella that wanted to have his phone gone for a price. You will find below the screenshot of our chat.

For a second, I asked myself, "CAN CORRUPTION EVER BE CURTAILED IN NIGERIA?", "CAN NIGERIANS JUST PAUSE FOR A MOMENT AND THINK ABOUT THE ATROCITIES THAT WE HAVE COMMITTED THROUGH NUMBER OF SCAMS?" CAN WE FOR A SECOND THINK ABOUT OUR REPUTATION IN THE FACE OF OTHER NATIONS?"

Can we Nigerians home and abroad find something better , positive and worthwhile to channel our ingenious brain?

Yes they said it, we know and I know we are smart people, if our leaders are not helping our people, not creating jobs, making life difficult, and making us a laughing stock in the face of the world, can we stop condemning and start converting that same energy into a positive one and start thinking and acting. I know it will not be easy but it is worth it.

Let's take our lives back from the government and make our lives better ourselves. Outside Nigeria, Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba are all known as Nigerians, white can't differetiate who is which.

We call ourselves brothers and sisters. Let us replicate that too at home, let us all come together and build our nation, cure it of her sickness, purge it of all corruption. Let us re-write our NAME back in the golden book.

I hope that one day, THE LOST REPUTATION of OUR DEAR NATION RETURNS!

Ask the fraudsters they would say the economy is hard and politicians stealing all the money. But seriously foreigners dont trust Nigerians anymore and its gonna affect the future generations. Even if u gave Nigerians jobs they would still scam.

Today i met a girl complaining that her Facebook has been blocked that she was using it for work. She's using a white doctor's identity.
I feel u bro. Should we start an #end yahoo campaign.
