Thanks OP. My fiancée is an Edo girl, and we've been friends for over 10years now, and she is a proof that that myth about Edo girls is just a lie.
But talking about witchcraft, though I'm hearing this for the first time that Edo girls are considered to be witches, I think the reason for that opinion is not farfetched. Edo indigenes (not all, though) have this strong sense of their tradition; they hold it so dearly. And since part of that tradition include some idolatry rituals, their children are susceptible to wizardry and witchcrafts: I mean those who are still so unbending about their Edo/Bini culture.

If no be Edo state, then forget it. I am very proud of my state and i can tell you i agree with the OP. Most people think all Edo girls are prostitute which is a lie. Edos are very traditional in belief and you will hardly find an Edo girl doing prostitution in Nigeria. In Benin, 95% of the girls into prostitution are from other parts of the country. An Edo girl would rather travel abroad and engage in such illicit act than do it in Nigeria. People tend to say we are lazy but that is so untrue. infact, we have been taking care of ourselves for a very long time since we became part of this federation. We Edos have pride and we believe so much in ourselves. Because our placentals has been buried here in Edoland and as long as our soil and blood share the same colour we will never forget Edo. Unlike other Nigerians who travel abroad and barely come back, an average edo man who is abroad comes home immediately he has his papers. Most of the houses you see here, were built from as low as 50 euros. People don't understand why our youths were running to Libya, we just don't know how to sit down and wait for government and wail. We believe so much in ourselves. We love our land, we farm here and feed ourselves and give land to people from other states to farm too. Our Land is big enough for us, apart from Oyo and Cross river states, no other state in southern Nigeria is as big as ours. We are very peaceful and accommodating sets of people no wonder Edo state is where East meets West.

Just because we are very traditional that doesn't mean we are all witches and wizards. I am proudly Esan. God bless Edo land.

Thank you for this sir,some tribes love to rewrite history to suit them,we dont actually care cause most tribes in Nigeria can trace their root to the Benin empire..

We dont come online insulting,abusing and disrespecting other tribes,all ethnic groups can stay and live peaceful in Edo land,no fight..

We dont wail either,lucky igbenedion was bad,we remove him.we dont care about parties we only can what/who will drive the state forward.

All those prostitutes they say are in europe are better than their family by far,,they build houses here,do business here,,they rather suffer there than by allowing broke boys giving them n250 for sex grin..i know must ladies in other states do this.

I was born in Benin
I can categorically tell you that bini women hardly stay faithful to their husbands. And the chance of a Benin woman marrying more than one man is extremely high
Also almost all Bini families have a lady hustling in Italy, France, Spain or Germany
Let me stop o

Good day everyone,these issues have been disturbing as of lately,people tend to stereotype Edo indigenes girls precisely as either prostitutes or witches..

This is bad cause you cant just define a race because of few bad heads,its like white men call all Nigerians thieves and bad people,i know you know how that feels..so i am going to be addressing them one after the other..

1:All Edo girls are prostitutes(ashawo) and travel to europe;

See i live in Edo state all my life,i cant trade it with anywhere in the world,Not all edo born females are into that act.The prostitutes tend to have this notion that they can live in nigeria collecting 500 naira,5000 naira for different clients,they prefer to do the business somewhere profitable and invest the money here in their homeland.

As a parents you cant allow your child to go into sex business,it will be a disgrace likewise edo parents.They detest the act.

Note:Only prostitutes from Edo go to abroad and perform such act not edo girls entirely..

you will be suprise to know 85 percent of prostitutes in edo state right now are not from edo,but edo prostitutes are mostly in italy..i hope you get my point.

2:Edo girls are witches;
common man,this is the 21 first century,who still believe in those stuffs??i wont go into details o this because its too absurd an educated person can believe in voodo and magic,please look at things logical and solve them logically not all things are spiritual or needs spiritual intervention..

calling them these things is just like saying,all igbos are drug dealers,all yoruba are coward/betrayer,all ijaws are lazy/illiterate,all fulani are terrorists,all calabars are cannibals.....Which isnt true,which should learn to love and respect each other and accept our flaws to move things for the better.Lets do what our parents couldnt do for us..Making Nigeria better..

PROUDLY BENIN.

So what do you call the otumokpo that Edo chiefs brought not long ago? They claim it had been locked away for 800yrs without sunlight. How do we classify that act?
