You are the one who seem not to be getting it:

First of all how does the alleged crime of one person warrant the castigation of the entire ppl from the region he belongs?

Secondly, the issue should not be about north and south but about a person, Abacha and what he may have or not have done as a head of state - because he was not head of the northern states but head of the Nigerian state.

Thirdly, if you had read my post carefully you would have noticed that neither I nor Buhari (in his original statement) were giving Abacha a blanket endorsement as a hero but stating the fact that he wasn't 100% all bad; because as a human being and a statesman he also had some good sides - among them the infrastructural development under PTF.

Abacha is not alive to defend himself today; he obviously had stepped on many toes and made a lot of enemies, who have had the backing of a powerful media to make strong damaging incriminating allegations against him (among them were his immediate successors and victims; Abdulsalam Abubakar, OBJ; NADECO elements, Wole Soyinka inclusive etc - still powerful and relevant today to continue their personal vendetta against him).

The popular narrative of Abacha loot had since been challenged and quashed by those in a better position to know the truth; since they were also part and parcel of the Supreme Military Council which took the joint/collective decision to stash away part of Nigeria's external reserves in hidden secret accounts away from possible hostile foreign sanctions (like was done to Libya under Gaddafi) - the likes of Generals Jeremai Useni and Bamayi have on different occasions spoken about what actually transpired; unfortunately this truer version has been suppressed and undermined by his political enemies.

Lets get this right; no one is saying Abacha was a saint let was not corrupt; however, the amount being accredited to him as purposefully stolen for himself and personal use is quite unrealistic and unfair - take it or leave it.

As for the likes of GEJ and criminal Tompolo - well, there is no comparison let alone any argument; because I really have no time to play sentiments..
