I have observed with uttermost dismay that most Nigerian women living in London (UK) do not care or give a damn about Nigeria. They have become so westernised and comfortable with the western system that gives them undue privileges over their husbands and the last thing they would want to hear is any good news about Nigeria.

Very recently I met a Nigerian woman in London and started talking about the demise of our late president Yaradua. To my consternation, this woman had no idea about what I was saying. She was unaware of the death of the president. What is worse is that this woman did not even know that Nigeria has a new president known as Goodluck Jonathan. I was very furious when she made her ignorance even more obvious as she asked me the most stupid question. She asked “So it’s Yaradua’s wife who is the new president?” I asked her the question “Who is Yaradua’s wife?” and she answered me “I don’t even know”.

Yet in another recent discussion with another Nigerian woman in London, I talked about Goodluck Jonathan as the president of Nigeria. This woman appeared even more ignorant than the first woman I spoke about earlier. She asked me the question “Is Obasanjo not the president of Nigeria still?” In fact I have many instances about the uncaring and nonchalant attitude of Nigerian women living in London and probably living elsewhere in the Diaspora.

Contrary to these women’s hatred about any good development in Nigeria is their great interest in disseminating every evil development in Nigeria amongst their network across the world via text messages and email. Most of these women have formed themselves into a network and share amongst themselves every bad development in Nigeria such as armed robbery, kidnapping, rape, power blackout, road accidents, corruption etc. These women are more interested in such negative news about Nigeria and have closed their ears to any good development in Nigeria because these women dread returning to settle in Nigeria due to the maltreatment, abuse and disrespect they have shown to their husbands who in most cases brought them overseas.

The most worrying issue with this trend and development is the fact that most of these Nigerian women in Diaspora tend to portray Nigeria as an uninhabitable place to their children. They only tell their children about all the bad things that happen in Nigeria such as armed robbery, kidnapping, rape, power blackout, road accidents and thereby making these children to develop very poor impression about Nigeria.

There was no need of a blanket on every nigerian woman over there,the university community in u.k will understand you better.The women you have spoken to may not be that educated.

@bigdoo - u observation can be true for some women but not all.also, i've witnessed irritative talks about naija from both men and women in the uk.

I get you ,i have been to most parts of the world and you come across Nigerians that hate Nigeria,with a passion.It is not only the women.

Well as they say ignorance is bliss. I'm guessing these women you talked to have given up their nigerian citizenship and never ever plan on going back to naija to live. They probably received their permanent residency and now feeling very oyinbo now. What's their business with naija. Unfortunately there's not a lot of good news to report from Nigeria.
On another note, not cool to generalize. There are still some ppl with hope for nigeria and believe that something can be done to fix our country or more importantly change the mindset of nigerians.

Lmfaooooo. U just need to quit hanging with them maybe you'll meet the less ignorant ones. But at my job I was discussing naija issues with this educated lady and she seemed not to know much either. Whatever she knew was so way back. Truth is that some have left naija for years, never gone back, have established themselves in the system so much that they are not that into naija issues like that anymore.

some women have no interest in politices both home and abroad, is it the one u try to have a conversation with a group of men and then when they realise u know too much for ur gender one idiot will now shout "woman keep quiet wettin u know for male matter self" as for painting nigeria black with negative issues - if i had children i too would think twice before allowing them visit, when even simple gateman or even family memebers will plan armed robbers for u - (i dey talk from experience)
