Presidency blames power contest, anti-graft war for killings

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, has said the fierce competition for power and President Muhammadu Buhari’s unrelenting war on corruption are responsible for an upsurge of violent conflicts across Nigeria.

Shehu said this while speaking to reporters at the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, in Abuja, on Monday.

He explained that competition for power had become fiercer and the stakes had become very high hence the upsurge in cases of violent attacks.

The presidential aide noted that many people, especially the rich and the powerful, had thought the war against graft was a joke until the President with the support of a reformed judiciary, showed no sign of backing down.

Shehu said, “The problem is that the competition for power in the country has become fiercer and fiercer because the stake is very high. I will give you one example. The President has unleashed on the country the war against corruption, the type that had never been seen before. Assets are being recovered from powerful people.

“The President is lucky. He has a judiciary which is transforming itself, which is on the same page with the President in fighting corruption. As I speak to you now, you know that two former state governors are in jail.

“A lot of people thought this war against corruption is a joke, and that the back and forth that has characterized this over time will continue. One of the two cases we are talking about is determined after eleven years of back and forth with lawyers and judges, kicking the ball from this hut to that hut.

“Now, they have descended on the country. A new era and a new aura that is ensuring the conclusion of these cases – a lot of these hash attacks against the President, are coming from people who had become used to lifestyle they can no longer sustain.”

Before it was:
herdsmen from Libya.
Then anti open grazing law.
Then climate change.
Then Gaddafi.
Then 300 slaughtered cows.
Now it is politicians, all in a desperate bit to sheild Miyetti Allah terrorist, the group responsible for plateau genocide.
For a bloody govt quick to accuse opposition politicians for the genocide against Christians in middle belt by fulani terrorist, it is very clear that buhari and his band of terrorist in APC were responsible for boko haram terrorist activities in the last administration to win elections in 2015. For a terrorist group like boko haram to name buhari as their negotiator in 2013 means they have a close working relationship.
Bloody terrorist.

So its no longer Libyans, it's nolonger grazing routes, it's no longer anti grazing bill , it's no longer farmers herders clash but now power contest grin... My question to Garba Shehu is why has his president refused to declare these power contestants who have killed over 20 thousand people as terrorist na and arrest them.... the Buhari govt seems to want to use all these silly comments and volte farcing statements to buy time for the Jihad foot soldiers to claim and rename more Middle belt lands before his tenure is over ..... Nigeria these people will not releiquinsh power easily i suspect Millions will die and the world will intervene before Buhari relinquishes after his 2019 loss at the poll which is certain

That's always their default blame mode. An act that some group already claimed responsibility for.

The stake is very high.

They can kill 1m innocent people just to keep their ill-gotting billions and come back to power to continue their loot.

Whether they like it or not,
Buhari till 2023.

Mr incompetence and his bandwagon wont stop clowning, If we apply this their logic to happenings in the past administration then one could say their desperation for power was the cause of high level of insecurity then.

the same corrupt people that were doing this before to retain power are still doing it now to come back to power to continue their looting.

Buhari don't have anything to gain or to lose.

lets be realistic here...everyone knows that these killings are strongly political and nothing more..The bad eggs doing this acts are just trying to make the president look bad before the people...if its not political how comes the herdsmen were equipped with AK-47 riffle?...can i they even afford one?....all these are masterminded by the opposing party...the earlier Nigerians wake up to this truth then we can help ourselves towards the change that we need.God bless Nigeria.

Your devilish buhari sent special forces of the soldiers amd airforce to zamfara to protect his fellow fulani herdsmen from cattle rustlers, what has he done for the people of benue, plateau, adamawa, taraba How many fulani herdsmen have been arrested and proscuted like the 6 non-fulanis sentenced to death in adamawa??
