Ok I remember now when an engineer was installing a 40kva soundproof generator at our facility,I saw him kind of buring a wire of some sort in the ground connected to the generator. I remember asking him why he was doing that,he called it earthing or whatever. He said it was to prevent electric shock fro the gen. I also know something was installed on the roof of the building. I'm a novice in that area don't really know much.

Yeah,it's a common practice worldwide when electrotechnical installations are done be it around buildings,industries etc to make provision for Earthing System...as a way of protecting buildings, equipment,people as the case may be from lightning strike.
