If marriage was so important, then why do married people still cheat on their spouses? Why is divorce becoming so common by the day? Can anyone not live a normal life if he or she isn't married?

We have heard bizarre stories of people caught cheating on their partners just a few days to their weddings. I have been to a wedding where the bride wanted calling it all off, on finding out her husband to be was not who she thought he really was. But why the rush? What's so important about marriages that people find it so hard to endure the waiting time?

People should be free to make friends, date, fall in love, have sex, and if they eventually feel like getting married, do so. Marriage shouldn't be a necessity but a choice.

in the real world, absolutely, but in Nigeria where Marriage is viewed as some type of "success/prize" and viewed as the definition of happiness, it is not! anyone unmarried in Nigeria will be viewed by society as a failure.... viewed by their religion as a lacking.... viewed by their married friends as "poor you" cry etc

who are we kidding? Nigerian and marriage is like 5 and 6

You ain't suppose to create this thread because we have reached a stage in life that you can do anything you feel like doing as far as you ain't breaking any law .... Now tell me, who are you gonna be offending if u decide not to marry ?

Marriage is an individual thing in 21st century urban life !!

To me, Marriage is Important .... it can uphold discipline for those who want to be disciplined !

Your question is subjective, it’s not just infidelity that ends marriages. It’s events preceding most marriages that spell doom for most unions if people were honest with each other they would not have gone ahead with the wedding.

Secondly it is easier to get a divorce these days. In countries (mostly Catholic,Coptic and Orthodox being the main religions) divorces are not easily granted so people just move on to other partners and start families while still legally married to someone else.
Marriage as an institution is now a career objective for some rather than be a union of two families
