On his part, he said he wants the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Kayode Fayemi to will the governorship election in Ekiti state. He said he wants Fayemi to win because of prompt payment of salary since Ekiti is a civil servant. "Ekiti is a civil servant state," he said. "So I want Fayemi to win because of prompt payment of salary." Another resident said Fayemi did well in his first tenure, hence, the reason why he wants the former governor to win the forthcoming election. Among the people interviewed by NAIJ.com, a large number of them said they want PDP candidate Professor Eleka to win the election based on popular demand while others said they want Dr Kayode Fayemi to emerge winner on July 14. One of the resident who also spoke with NAIJ.com said the two leading candidates of the APC and PDP both have equal chance to win the election. However, two other residents said the winner of the election will be determined by God. While NAIJ.com on the spot interaction with residents of the state give the leading candidates fifty-fifty chance of clinching the governorship race, an opinion survey released on Friday, July 12 by NOIPolls, Nigeria’s premier public opinion polling institution had predicted Eleka of PDP to win the election. In its release, the foremost polling institution wrote: "Ahead of the July 14th 2018 governorship election in Ekiti State, a new public opinion poll by NOIPolls has again tipped Professor Kolapo Olusola (Eleka), candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP) to win the governorship race over Dr. John Kayode Fayemi (JKF), candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). NAIJ.com on the spot interaction with residents of the state also correspond with an opinion survey released on by NOIPolls. Credit: NOIPOLLS "This 2nd poll conducted in the first four days of the election week (9th – 12th July, 2018) reveals that Professor Olusola now leads Dr. Fayemi by a significant 25 percentage point; up from 8 percentage point lead revealed in the 1st pre-election poll conducted between 18th and 23rd June, 2018." "For the poll, 1,000 randomly selected telephone-owning adult respondents were interviewed across Ekiti state via telephone: Professor Olusola, fondly known as Eleka polled 57 percent; Dr. Fayemi (JKF) polled 32 percent; and Otunba Segun Adewale of ADP, fondly called Oshaprapra (2 percent)," it concluded. NAIJ.com had earlier reported that the police spokesperson in Ekiti state, Ikechukwu Caleb, revealed the breakdown of how 30,000 officers were deployed to various local governments in the state for the forthcoming gubernatorial election. The deployment of over 30,000 officers to the state generated a lot of controversies as many are of the opinion that the deployed personnel are too much for a state election.
