Osun State University in a letter declared that the rector did not have MSc and PhD in Economics from the University Following the failure rocking Igbajo Polytechnic, Osun state, a community-owned tertiary University, over the alleged deceitful PhD certificate of the rector.

The management of the institution University of Ibadan has written the revoking the certificates presented by the embattled rector, Akinola Olaolu.

According to The Punch, the letter addressed to Prof. Olu Odeyemi, the chairman of the governing council, declared that Olaolu did not have MSc and PhD in Economics from the university. If reached the director of Public Communications, UI, Olatunji Oladejo, said the university had no record of the rector.

Also, the rector’s alleged dissertation supervisor, Prof. Ademola Ariyo, stated that there was no account of Olaolu in the department of economics where he rated to have bagged the doctorate degree. When the rector was faced with the UI’s position on the intelligence of result, he said he had just earned his PhD certificate from the academy result, the alleged certificate was sent to UI for affirmation and was again revoked.

However, Checks also revealed that the University of Lagos, Akoka, where Olaolu insisted that he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Economics also said the rector did not finish from the University.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission (ICPC), in a record by Rasheedat Okoduwa, its spokesperson, said the rector had been apprehended and confined at the Ibadan office of the agency.

The chairman of the Igbajo polytechnic’s governing council, while rejecting to comment on the arrest, said the university was awaiting UI’s acknowledgement to the school’s enquiries.

Furthermore, investigation unveiled that Olaolu had his first degree in Biology from the University of Lagos, Akoka, in June 1977. He fulfilled his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on July 31, 1978. With the BSc in Biology, he designated for a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in UI in 1996 and made the terminal course.

However, his right of having BSc, MSc and PhD in Economics has been confirmed bogus. A two-page document which was acquired from a source and approached to Odeyemi by the registrar of UI, Olubunmi Faluyi, dated June 25, 2018, confirmed the investigation.
