Culture is what we found for ourselves in the sense that the easy way we can be perceived within the local environment we reside, but one might consider living across the local conditions and predict changes in that same idea we believe in, We should consider as much as possible to change and adapt to the new culture.

Many African young ladies abroad always want to keep their babies on their back and even carry items on their head, whenever they are working at the streets of western countries, which I found so ignorant when compared to the white race.

Please include your opinion on the way out of these horrible practiced ways we tend to move in overseas, as some will use low wrappers on that and make the act so barbarous as the whites called it MONKEY way of life.

Your advice and called to improve our community to 21st century world.

nothing wrong with carrying babies on your back.

my grown friends were carried on their mothers and aunties backs as babies and they can count the number of times they've been to nigeria.

you just do it in your house, that's all. Not outside where people will stare at you.

poster, if you like put worse looking pictures than what you currently have up there.

that's your own problem!

good lord that baby's head looks like its about to pop off and roll out. shocked They could have at least used the proper things for carrying babies on your back, I forgot what they were called but many people here in America use them, and just about everywhere else.

^^i think you need to launch a campaign in your hometown (wherever that is) so people can stop carrying their babies on their backs.

give me one reason why carrying a baby on the back is wrong?

if carrying a baby on the back is "primitive" what do you call your "whites" who strap their baby in the front or put them in strollers? advanced? because they are "whites"? pray tell

i guess those abroad should also stop wearing their native wears, and eating their foods because they are also "primitive" according to your white mans "manual of advanced living" book

no mind him or her.

when a white man does it, it automatically becomes "advanced" forward, bright thinking, civilized and what have you but when a african does it instantly becomes primitive, backward, dirty, monkey way of life and all things not desirable.

@poster ssaemoenl answer my question why shy away? didnt ur mum carry u on her back? and tell me what u have against it. And who told u it started in the 13century?? Dont be naive and stop being among those that r against anything african. If ppl thought like u, then africa will have no culture in the next 50yrs. U shld stop trying to play white and accept who u are.

Guess what the OP is trying to say is that the African women do it too primitively tongue. They should "westernise" their "baby-backing" to look cool like the White women have done in those pictures. I've seen a couple of women in public walking around with their kid on their back, tied on with the odd ankara wrapper. Them just no send tongue. But it's just a case of necessity, I'm sure they don't mean to offend the OP's tender sensibilities cheesy. Lol, yeye guy.

tied on with the odd ankara wrapper.

Ankara that is ruling the fashion industry. Ankara that is selling for hundreds of dollars now. Let us not even get into that now, we all remember Louis Vuitton right?

Re: African Ladies Abroad Carrying Babies On Their Back!(Dirty Clothes) by Sissy3(f): 1:07am On Jun 15, 2010
so its no longer the act of carrying the baby on the back now but the wrapper used in carrying the baby?

Lol. What has Louis V. ankara got to do with the one I'm talking about, which might have originated from the stalls of Yaba, now being showcased on the streets of London by a proud baby-backing mom?? tongue tongue.

Well, the wrapper is the only difference between the woman and these fashionable White mums who have sarong-ed their kids to their body, so I'm guessing that this is where the OP gets his beef. Just trying to see his own point of view. In my own sarcastic little way of course tongue.

@poster angry angry

what on earth is so wrong with a mother carrying her baby on her back??

don't you know that babies carried on the back are a lot more content than those placed in a pushchair or pram??

ask any midwife and they'll tell you that babies placed on the back cry less because they feel the warmth and affection of their mother (human contact)

but I guess you'll soon tell us that it's wrong to breast-feed babies too!!

i dont think the wrapper is the issue with the OP. his issue is that african women carrying their babies on the back is living the "monkey way of life". its very back-warded, uncivilized and primitive for african women to be carrying their baby on their back.

supposing the wrapper was the issue, his white women who use fancy wrappers do so because they dont have access to ankara unlike their african counterparts.

and if even both white/african women use african wrapper, OP will still find issue with it. maybe he will claim african women are primitive for doing do so because they use "nigerian wax" while his white women use "hollandis"

The white man is good for "reforming" everything. However, in this instance, I don't think they care if black women carry babies on the back. We give them too much credit.
Re: African Ladies Abroad Carrying Babies On Their Back!(Dirty Clothes) by mutter(f): 12:12pm On Jun 28, 2010
i carried ans still carry all my babies on my back and guess what?
Loads of "white ladies" stop me on the road and ask me how I get it done. They find it so practical. They are surprised you can use any material for it.
Thank God for BACKING. How on earth would I have been able to cope with my house chores and a baby.
Do you know that backing a baby is very healthy for the hip bone?

It's only someone who has a low self esteem that would call the ways of their people a 'monkey way of life' sad that blacks still have this slavery mentality sad . .

I like it and see nothing wrong with it. When I see african women who tie there baby on their back, it kinda warms my heart cheesy I personally feel it truly depicts a mother's love for her babies ( i know that was corny, lol) anyhoo, if i have kids, i wouldnt mind doing that too bcuz i like it and i think its pretty cool, if u ask me.

when my cousin visited us when her son was less then a year old, she tied him on the back when we went out shopping in the mall or whatever and she got very good/positive feedbacks. People were admiring her and people would stare from far away with big smiles on their faces.

Abegii grin grin grin. Let's be real here: it is safer and more decent to take your baby out in a "pram" than tied to your back, I'm talking in public here. Going shopping in the UK with the baby on her back! Wow!! I would understand women who do it out of necessity, maybe they left the house unexpectedly with the child and had to "back" him/her. But the safest place to "tie" the child is in the home where you can be sure of your environment and surroundings, while still enjoy the closeness and warmth backing your baby gives you - and the baby itself as well.

Yeah well, this is an opinion not medical fact. If the baby is well fastened and secured there's nothing to worry about millions of Nigerian women run up and down from the stream, bustle through busy markets with uneven streets and cross lawless roads with their baby's tied firmly to their backs. Millions of Nigerian babies aren't dyeing form Backing. There's a difference between plain embarrassment/a want to fit in than there is too proven medical science. I can assure you if this was a Celtic tradition no one will make an issue about "safety".
Re: African Ladies Abroad Carrying Babies On Their Back!(Dirty Clothes) by Nobody: 9:59pm On Jul 02, 2010
SSaemoenl, I think you need to work on yourself, you've got serious issues!

So, just because the "whites" carry babies in a front-worn sling, it suddenly becomes fashionable, huh?  angry I see nothing wrong with a woman, African or otherwise, carrying her baby on her back. That has been done for decades, way before the front-worn "Western" sling became widely used. I have no worries with my wife carrying our baby on her back, outside our home, in the town centre, shopping mall etc. Why should it be an issue?

As far as I'm concerned, a woman can carry her baby any way she chooses - on her back, on her head, on her chest, under her armpit etc. If her mouth's big enough, she can carry her infant there too, it's no one's business, as long as the baby's secure. My mother carried me on her back, I even as a guy carried my kid sister on my back in Nigeria, big deal! I don't know what race you are, and quite frankly, I don't really care. Mind your damn business, and work on issues that you're afflicted with, which from all you've posted here, are legion.  angry
