Dreams form an integral part of our everyday physical and spiritual lives.

Useful as they are, dreams have a nasty habit of evaporating as soon as one awakes from sleep.

Below are a few tips to help facilitate remembering of dreams.

1. Maintain good, consistent sleep habits. Not getting enough sleep or going to bed ‘dog-tired’ can dramatically reduce natural dreaming activity.

2. When you go to bed tell yourself that you will remember your dreams. Repeat “I will remember my dreams” to yourself several times as you drift off to sleep. It sounds odd, but this tip has been shown again and again to be one of the most helpful.

3. Try to wake up slowly to remain within the ‘mood’ of your last dream. Buy an alarm clock with a gentle wake setting (sometimes called a progressive wake).

4. Awake at least once during the night, many times this will occur around an REM sleep cycle. Set an alarm or drink a lot of water prior to bed to ensure you have to wake up at least once.

5. Think about, but do not dwell upon your mood/emotions as you drift off to sleep.

6. Avoid alcohol near bedtime. Alcohol reduces the frequency and density of REM sleep.

7. Keep a pad and pencil next to your bed so you can jot down quick notes about your dream if you awake during the night (you may not remember it by morning) or as soon as you get up in the morning. Just the process of writing things down may help you recall more information about your dreams.

8. Start a dream journal. Take your notes and recollections of you dreams and record your dreams in journal or story form.

9. Discuss your dreams with friends and family members. Just articulating your dreams can help you remember additional details.

10. If you awake during the night, think about your previous dream as you go back to sleep. This will help to reinforce the dream for improved dream recall in the morning.

I find reactions from the online public about this post quite revealing.

To start with, it appears a number of people are either not interested in their own dreams or they outrightly just prefer denying the existence of dreams.

The bible is very clear about the purpose of dreams as a communication vehicle between us humans and our creator, God.

He discloses this purpose to us in Job 33: 14-15

Some of the most astonishing events in human history have been earlier settled in dreams either as a direct message or as a parable.

I give a few biblical instances below:

King Solomon's fame and wisdom.
Solomon would have been just like any other King in Israel but he offered a great sacrifice to God in the day time.
God was so pleased he wanted to reward him instantly.
So, that night, God visited him in his dream and asked him what he needed.
Solomon being just a young and inexperienced King, asked God for wisdom to rule the nation of Israel. God was shocked he didn't ask for riches so, God gave him super-abundant riches, fame, glory, peaceful reign and so on in addition to the wisdom he asked for. Read the story in 1Kings 3: 5-15.
He became the richest and wisest King in human history yet it was first settled in his dream.

Joseph, Prime Minister in Egypt
Joseph used to dream about his star rising higher than those of his family members. The disclosure of these dreams to his family landed him in serious trouble and he is sold as a slave to get rid of him.
While in the strange land of Egypt, he was able to interprete King Pharaoh's dreams of an impending famine which was seven years away.
His dream related abilities made him the most famous prime minister in the history of Egypt and the wisest Logistsics manager in the whole world. Read Genesis 40: 5-22 and Genesis 41: 1-44

Jacob's Stairway to heaven at Bethel.
Jacob is known to be the first person to pay tithe to God. While passing the night at Bethel on a trip, he saw a stairway to heaven in his dream and he realised he was on a holy ground. He built an alter to God at that place. Gen. 28: 12-17

Nebuchadnezzar and his forgotten dream
King Nebuchadnezzar had an awfully scary dream and he awoke but forgot the dream.
In his style as a king, he called all his advicers together for an intrepretation of the dreanm but he failed to ownup that he had forgotten the dream.
Daniel was the only one able to tell him the dream as well as interprete it.
It turns out that it was a warning message from God to the King about impending judgements on his reign of terror. Read Daniel 2:1-47

Saving Baby Jesus
Jesus would be wanted to kill him.
An Angel appeared to Joseph in a dream and instructed him to escape to a distant land with Jesus and Mary his mother, which he adhered to. Read Matthew 2: 13-17

A lot of people have had a taste at the phenomenom called "DEJA-VU".
Deja-vu occurs when you visit a new or strange place for the first time in your life and you immediately have this feeling and conviction you've been there before.
That's because you've been taken on a trip to that same place earlier in time in your dream or vision by your Guardian Angel who is trying to let you into your future ahead of time.
The purpose of such a future-travel may be for you to be informed and prepared for what the future holds for you.
Do not forget, God loves indicating His intentions about us. Read again Gen. 18: 17-19

Do you still say dreams are not important?

@ ^^^

Do you still say dreams are not important was the question.

Important? Of course they are important

but in these last days the old men are left to notch up the mileage dreaming off in slumber land

You'll have to shut or close eyes to dream dreams, isnt it?

Prophesy and see visions; different kettles of fish

If you aint an old man, I'll recommend you stick to prophesying or seeing visions;

@ OP: Brilliant. Ignore the rabble rousers. As one who pays careful attention to dreams, i find this truly useful.

I doubt i can comply with the no-alcohol tip though. I need my Guiness Stout.

And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God,

That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh;

Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions,

Your old men shall dream dreams."

Still on remembering your dreams, here are some extra tips:

* Keep a notepad or voice recorder with you throughout the day. Often something you see or hear later in the day will trigger a memory of a dream from the night before. Note these recollections without delay, and think about them to see if you can remember how they fit into the rest of the dream.

* Keep a table lamp on your nightstand. If you wake up in the middle of the night, you’ll need to turn on a light in order to record your dreams in your dream journal. As with the alarm clock, you want to be able to reach your lamp with as little movement as possible.

* As an alternative, you can also use a small flashlight solely for recording dreams at night. Cover the lens with three layers of masking tape so you can still easily see your journal at night, but it's not so bright that it makes you want to close your eyes.

* Better yet, don't use any light at all, as it can make it harder to remember your dreams. Just have your pen and paper where you can reach them easily, and you won't even have to open your eyes (be careful not to fall back asleep though). With practice you'll get better at writing without seeing the paper.

* Some people keep a small voice recorder by the bed and talk into it instead of writing down the dream. It's easier to remember when you're only half-awake!

* If you have the same dream the next day, or next week, jot that down also. A dream that repeats itself is a dream upon which we should all concentrate. It might have a special meaning.

* When recording dreams, remember that the recording is personal. Don't write it to make sense for others because you may find yourself altering things to make it easier for outsiders to understand. Always write what you believe to be true, not what would make sense.

* Record exactly what happened without necessarily trying to make sense of it yourself, either. For example, if your dream starts inside a house and you then find yourself in a forest, avoid the temptation to assume you walked out of the house. Dreams that are foreign to everyday experience could be lost by trying to apply waking logic to the events.

* When recording the dream, it may be easier to remember if you write (or speak) it in present tense (i.e. "I am going to" instead of "I went to"wink.

* Some songs actually make the dream stick in your head for a little while longer. Try listening to some music before you start the day, and see what happens!

* After you have managed to remember a few dreams think of them before going to sleep, It can help spark recall.

* After you've remembered most of your dream, try and put it into the right order. This will help, because it's easier to memorize things if you know what happened first, and always write that down first.

* If you alreaddy dreamed a dream and want to remember it, don't wory. When you're dreaming, you are in an entirely different set of mind. Try lucid dreaming. When you are in this set of mind and you are lucid dreaming, sometimes you have the ability to recall your past dreams! Think of it like if you had a part of your brain that stores dreams that you have, and you can only access it by dreaming.

WARNINGS!!!

* Be careful about interpreting dreams. The interpretation of dreams is not science, so don’t jump to conclusions, and don’t place too much importance on a dream. For example, a dream about death may not mean that someone will die, or that something bad will happen.
* If you have trouble sleeping or difficulty getting enough sleep, don’t try to record dreams in the middle of the night. Just go back to sleep.

THINGS YOU'LL NEED
* A notepad and pencil
* Something to wake you up gently
* Table lamp near your bed
* A small handheld tape or digital voice recorder
