The Super Eagles squad that crashed out of the ongoing World Cup in South Africa will be disbanded any moment from now.


Nigeria lost 1-0 to Argentina in their opening game of Group B on June 12, followed by another 2-1 defeat to Greece. On Tuesday the team drew 2-2 with South Korea and eventually crashed of the tournament.


Authoritative sources close to the National Sports Commission told our correspondent in Johannesburg on Wednesday that the NSC had concluded arrangements to disband the squad. According to our sources, some of the big names will be sent packing while only the young and dedicated ones will be retained.


It was learnt that the body would meet with the chieftains of the Nigeria Football Federation on the development.


Goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama is being tipped to lead the new-look Eagles that will comprise home-based players and players from the national age-limit teams.


The government is not happy with the performance of the national team at the first World Cup to be hosted in Africa and has decided to act.


Our correspondent learnt that the NSC would encourage the NFF to retain coach Lars Lagerback to enable the country to build a formidable team.

We love lopsided decisions in this country. We should realize that there is no cause without effect, no ripples without some disturbance. Which of these should be sacked Eagles or NFF? It is true that some of those players have seen better days; but are we not aware of the corruption in NFF? When was Lagerback employed? Was NFF not feeding fat on Amodu? NFF should be cleaned up before we think of Eagles. If an eagle does not fly it is because someone clipped its wings or someone cage

I dont think it is only the eagle that should be disbanded I think the glass house need clean up as well. All we need is total clean up before we can have a good and performing team.

That's a welcomed idea most of the players lack commitment but I would appreciate it if the NFF members are included.

As long as Taiwo Ogunjobi and the likes of sanni lulu is in the glass house,football development will remain stalked.Administration is our problem and watever clean up should start with them.Also let ex footballers manage our glass hosue.they have seen it all and are in a better position to administer our football.am sure the likes of Odegbami,okocha et al will do a better job.

The problem with the players is not motivation but lack of patriotism, lack of commitment and lack of fitness. When players like Yakubu act as if he's doing the nation a favour, NFF is not the immediate problem.

If I were the Minister of Sports , this is what I would do:

1. Notify FIFA of the problems that NFF has caused Nigerian football(so that they will support my next decision), and seek the support of FIFA and the Presidency to 
     disband the NFF first, and re-select a new group of young, passionate, enterprising soccer enthusiasts from ex-professional players, to marketers, to analysts
     and astute soccer administrators from across Nigeria that are ready to make NFF a highly organised and credible organisation,and a strong brand in the corporate
     sector, so that many companies will be fighting one another to sponsor the new Super Eagles in the nearest future.

2. Disband the Super Eagles, and retain only 3 players among them(Enyeama, Haruna, and Osaze)

3. Sack Lagerback( a lot of Nairalanders may not like this, but for somebody to have played a clueless Etuhu for 3 matches without trying Ideye, it shows lack of
     initiative)

4. Give Samson Siasia a five year contract as Super Eagles coach, and ask him to select a fresh team of young players from the local league and foreign players who
     have never played for the national team before, and sponsor his attendance of coaching courses with 5 of the best coaches in the world. The new Super Eagles will
     play at least 6 international firendlies annually, to master their cohesiveness and understand one another.

For me, this is a good way forward for the team.
