The question is like asking whether oil is better than water. There is no answer.
You can write 100% functional database apps in both languages; the only things that might constrain you to one language over the other, would be very specific details on how both handle (or mishandle) very specific things.

DONT WORRY xtraodinaire , I DON'T WANT TO GET INTO ANOTHER JAVA VS VB RIVALRY, BUT AS BEEF SAID, THE LANGUAGE CHOICE DEPENDS ON THE SORT OF PROBLEM THAT ONE WANTS TO SOLVE. SINCE THE ORIGINAL POSTER 'S PROBLEM WAS A SMALL PROJECT THAT HAD TO DO WITH DATABASE, I GUESSED THE EASIEST CHOICE FOR HIM ( SINCE THE POSTER WOULD MOST PROBABLY BE A NOVICE TO PROGRAMMING) WAS VB. AS JAVA WITH ITS JDBC AND ALL MIGHT FRUSTRATE THE POOR FELLOW.
WELL JUST MY HUMBLE OPINION.

SO, dipotech HAVE YOU MADE UP YOUR MIND YET?

No probs. wink
I'll advice you to go for VB.NET instead of VB. Even better than VB.NET, is C# (better language by miles and can be used on both linux and windows).

Free compilers (and a lot other stuff) for both VB.NET and C# can be downlowded here; http://www.microsoft.com/express/
