Walking by the university stadium, one cannot help but notice the disaster that got averted. The collapsed roof of the gymnasium still under construction. What would have happened if this project had been completed on time? I wonder.

The project, An Indoor Sports Hall (Gymnasium) sponsored by the FGN 2013 Needs Assessment Project for Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike was contracted to CADTECH Engineering Services Limited located at 22 Ajose Street, off Bode Thomas, Surulere, Lagos.

The project which commenced late in 2015, was abandoned in 2017 after it collapsed while still under construction. See photos below:

The collapse seems to have been caused by the use of substandard materials. No official explanation has been given to the students whose lives would have been on risk.

In a school laden with sports enthusiast, the gymnasium had it been completed would have been a major catastrophe.
